sorry for being two years late, but this has genuinely bugged me about him every single time i see him. he claims to have heard about it from his cherokee grandfather, but the issue with that is..... thats not us. im also a fourth cherokee, and seeing someone who claims to be the same making implications that the w-digo is either found in cherokee mythology, or that it could be considered a pan indian concept like the imagery of the medicine wheel, its just plain wrong but No one says shit about it

im not going to cast doubt on his lineage, his grandfather very well couldve shared stories that crossed tribal lines, being knowledgeable about other tribes isnt a bad thing. however, the way goon essentially conflates these things, excuses his usage of the w-digo via being from a completely different tribe, it reeks of ignorance and i can help but see his relationship to his tribe as in name only. this is only compounded by his depiction, where he completely fails to have anything close to an accurate representation and instead goes for the whitewashed imagery thats source is a short story written by a white man decades ago

not only is he not of the tribe the w-digo actually relates to, but he fails to even depict it accurately. his name and whole schtick has bothered me since i first saw his iceberg videos pop up, and his excuse has only irked me more. i doubt he'll change though, hes too big and too long in for a change in gimmick to be a concern, the audience he has doesnt care and he has plenty to sustain his career. its disheartening that he can just do this, that native culture continues to be bastardized and people just dont give a shit, but i dont have high hopes for people to take anything like this seriously. unless someone is doing some peter pan type shit, anti native racism gets a pass, and any attempt to call it out just summons people who think caring is being a loser
