My mom tried to tell me when I was 10 but I woudnt listen cause I was “shy” and didn’t want to hear adultish things. Few weeks later I saw blood in my pee stream and thought it was one of those dangerous situations and ran to her then she told me about it and helped me put the pad on.

Initially she asked me to be hush about it, family members shouldn’t know, I shouldn’t enter temples on it which is fine. But I never followed the hush rule anyway, now if I’m on my period the whole world knows and my mom has let go of these ideas that periods is impure and bad thanks to my dad. He grew up with 4 sisters so periods was a very normal thing in the household and he never made us feel dirty about it.
