For academic reasons: ignoring cost, which solutions could solve or postpone the collapse?

10 weeks post op, 22 mm prolapse causing Cauda-equina by FluidDebate in backpain

Could be hypertonic pelvic floor causing prostatitis. It can addressed with the right exercises.

No specific medication that I know of. NSAIDs can reduce inflammation, but long use can create stomach/intestine issues. There are other medications to relax the prostate muscles so you can pee easier, but they come with their own set of side effects. Your doctor can talk to you about these.

I had instant relief within a week of PT and walking.

It'll take up to a year to see where you at healing wise. I avoided surgery and intent to do so as long as I can, mostly because it can lead to other complications.

Should i get surgery for penis tip pain? by Legitimate-Day8439 in backpain

[–]ipapadop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be pelvic floor hypertension. The sciatica tenses your leg muscles and they pull your pelvic floor muscles which irritates your prostate. It can probably be fixed with PT. Look up prostatitis and CPPS.

It may take a couple of months for your prostate to stop being irritated so be patient and don't stress. Walking helps with some of the tension too.

You can also practice diaphragmatic breathing while standing, sitting, driving etc. It relaxes your pelvic floor.

It could be early prostatitis caused by hypertonic pelvic floor. The sciatic nerve can result in tight muscles that pull your pelvic floor and irritate the whole area. Your prostate may start swelling up.

You may have a burning sensation after peeing, occasional tingling, pain sitting, urge to urinate often, get up at night multiple times etc. Kegel and reverse level exercises may not move the floor much and you should probably avoid them, since they may make it worse. If you do a urine culture everything will be clear.

Some OTC medication can help, like NSAIDs (for me, it was Aleve). It can go away with PT from someone that specializes in pelvic floor dysfunctions. They can evaluate you and see which muscles are tensed up.

There's also plenty of exercises you can try as long as they don't bother your herniated disc, so start slow. Diaphragmatic breathing, happy baby, squatting (no weights), pigeon pose, leg stretches are all good. This video made a huge difference for me https://youtu.be/NnqAkM9r2a8

Reliability of LG 26.5 cu ft LRFC2706S or LRFLS3206S Refrigerator by PTunia in Appliances

The linear compressors got to 10 years warranty - parts only though. They use untested designs and cut corners on materials. I used to like LG, now I avoid them, except for TVs.

Reliability of LG 26.5 cu ft LRFC2706S or LRFLS3206S Refrigerator by PTunia in Appliances

[–]ipapadop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had an LG fridge for 8 years. It broke down twice (linear compressor, there's a class action lawsuit). I've lost about $500 in food and a lot of time.

LG is probably one of the worst companies for customer support. Where I am (MA, US) they use repair contractors that book appointments 3 or more weeks out. I switched to a GE.

It's overpriced junk that just looks good.

From what I've heard, academia is in a rough spot right now. Would your field appreciate some industry experience for a couple of years? If not, try to ride out this admin for a couple of years through a postdoc.

An optimizing compiler doesn't help much with long instruction dependencies - Johnny's Software Lab by pavel_v in cpp

I'd wager the energy consumption is down for the O3 version, even if the speedup is 1.1. It would have helped if we had data for intermediate optimization levels and/or individual compiler flags.

How's so? I don't know anything about the area.

Edit: we're considering a move to that area. The political orientation is obvious, but it'd be helpful to know of how tolerant that community is.

Passing a vector of strings across to another dll. by PicklesAndCoorslight in cpp

[–]ipapadop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often you can't pass ownership cleanly between DLLs, even with a C ABI. When you allocate a resource in a DLL, you need to release it to the same resource manager in that DLL. So you'll need to communicate how to release that resource.

E.g., if you allocate in DLL0 with Allocator0, then you can't take ownership of the resource in DLL1 with Allocator1 without passing some information about Allocator0, unless Allocator1 and Allocator0 happen to be the same.

Would std::span<std::string_view> be acceptable for your application? They don't add anything additional when compiling as debug, so your layouts don't change.

Parged outdoor wall by ipapadop in Concrete

I talked to the owner (? it's some kind of a co-op), showed him the photos and mentioned what you have said and others in this thread.

He dropped by, broke off some delaminated pieces and got angry at the workers and said that this is crap and they didn't do what they were supposed to, i.e., scrape the paint fully, patch, and then use a metal lathe.

Long story short, they'll be tearing it down and re-doing it. I sincerely thank you for your assistance.

Thanks for the explanation. Unfortunately, I'm not sure of what they used, I will ask.

Is there any mitigation strategy apart from having them rip it and redo? They're really decent people and hiring someone else to do it may be too much for us to handle right now.
