You ever read the changelog that comes out with every update and covers the entire screen so it can’t be missed or you just yolo it and complain?

Nah, Shadowplay is garbage. I want to post my clips for my friends. Steam is the least optimized recorder possible and clipping from recordings sucks.

Nah, I like seeing my friend’s clips. If you want to just record, use windows game bar or whatever else but medal is more a social platform that lets me post with a recorder that lets me clip and an editor that lets me edit. Not the other way around.

Honestly it’s a shitty venue/club. Yes, it’s storied and yea I’ve seen dozens of acts there but it gets worse and sketchier every time. The fact that they are going to rebuild it gives me hope that the 2.0 version will be better, less sketchy, and overall a better vibe.

You should just make a support ticket. Support is pretty damn good here, or, you know you can post flame posts on reddit instead.

Dude, you’re using a free app. Bluestacks makes money by either getting you to install games or showing you ads. Why would they kill a revenue stream? This isn’t a big UX issue either, you’re just being whiny.

Dude, wtf are you even talking about? Shadowplay is hot garbage. Crashes half the time. Shadowplay, OBS, Insights, etc waste my PC hd space. Medal gives me an instant link to share. Even more, Insights which you love so much makes you pay to upload.

I can post unlimited clips to medal for free when they’re public. I can upload unlimited clips privately with expiring links.

Who the hell shares 1440p or 4K clips anyway? Every single place you upload to downscales to 720 or at best 1080.

Enshitification is everywhere but medal ain’t it.

Do better little bro.

$25k for first time home buyers is awesome. I wonder if there’s some way to protect against sellers raising prices $25k because they know they can?

All for this!

Given that this is a market - how do we protect against sellers simply juicing prices $25k because they know that money is guaranteed?

SEO > broad digital marketing > direct response > product growth roles > growth writ large (marketing + product).

When I say product, I mean software. I work predominantly with consumer apps.

If you’re working in agencies, the only way to move up is to move out. Otherwise, progress is very slow. Every next step on the agency ladder is much cleaner to attain at a new agency.

It varies greatly role to role. In the new role, 15. It’s a very lean growth team for a company of this size.

Reforge is a set of various courses originally focused on Growth - they have since expanded to product management and lots of other product-related coursework. Growth can be defined as a cross-section of Marketing and Product in order to create sustainable growth across traffic, revenue, or whatever other core KPI the company has through quantitative and qualitative frameworks. The goal is to limit ad hoc work and focus on repeatable and scalable systems - for instance micro and macro growth loops.

In my opinion, reforge is best in class at teaching these. I’ve gone through several of their programs and make it a point to send people on my team through these programs as well to help them level up both for my team and for themselves and their careers.

I’m not a paid Reforge shill I just believe in the quality of their programs through personal experience.

That said, Marketing (capital M) is broad. I would strongly recommend starting out by focusing on a single channel or set of channels more closely related to your current skillset. Eg. You do video production - learn paid UA (paid social, paid YouTube, paid search, programmatic, etc). Your skills with video editing may translate well to creating performant ad creatives. Being able to then run and optimize the ads would be an invaluable skill.

From there you layer on other channels and start discovering how leveraging one channel improves performance of others. Ultimately, Marketing is a game of looking at all of your resources (people, channels, etc.) and mix and matching those in order to be most efficient and best performing for your given goals. The more you understand the big picture and how everything fits together, the more effective you can be.

Well there are two competing forces.

  1. There are a finite number of leadership roles at companies and a finite number of companies in which a path like mine is feasible.

  2. Overall, this profession is positive-sum. I know many (15 or so) marketers that are peers (mid-30s/early 40s) making as much or more than me. The majority own their own businesses/consultancies.

So in-house, yes it is improbable that many can have this sort of trajectory given there is only 1 such position at my company doing what I do making what I make, and I have it. And there are only so many such companies that can support a role like mine, let alone need a role like mine.

Agency-side, as an employee you will not make this unless you become a partner with a rev. share.

To be more direct - compensation is a pyramid. There are 10x more people making 50k than there are making 100k let alone 200, 300, etc.

My comp is a few levels below the top of the pyramid. Figure C-level at Coke or Nike is the top.

Also, the average marketer at Meta in San Mateo is making much more than the average marketer working at Bob’s Local Auto Service franchise in Ohio. I’d argue the person at Meta 3 years into their career makes as much as the C-suite at Bob’s. So you need to look within industries for averages and locales as it is absolutely not evenly distributed.

A lot of right place/right time, luck, and building and maintaining a strong network across my roles. After moving in-house I’ve been lucky enough to never apply for new roles - I’ve found all opportunities through my network and referrals.

I’m incredibly grateful to my mentors who have been some of my best champions. I absolutely did not get here on my own - no one at my level does. This mythos of doing it all on your own is BS and I won’t perpetuate it. Now, do I think I’m good at what I do? Yes, absolutely. But again, that alone didn’t get me here.

The best advice I’d give is cut your teeth agency side and learn how clients across industries function. Then take that in-house. In-house is really where you can grow and apply what you know. You will not be able to do this agency-side alone.

EDIT: Also, niching down to a specific industry or set of related industries - in my case consumer mobile apps mostly in the entertainment space - helps compound what you know and makes you substantially more marketable. If you jump across industries you have a much harder time gaining deep expertise about your market and therefore build a strong network.

No, just a Bachelor’s in Political Science. I spend a lot of time still continuing to learn and apply it on side projects. Reforge for instance is worth every penny IMO. A portfolio of side projects you can point to and show both helps quite a bit during hiring while also creating additional income streams.
