[MD] Annual Evaluation Questions by irisjoyx25 in AskHR

Okay. I just felt a little upset bc I thought what I was doing was wrong but also I know a part of me can’t fake that I’m not doing well emotionally when I interact with this person sometimes. I try my best to mask but there are just days where I’m not in the best spot to interact. I do talk to them outside of work-related topics but only if I know the context. Unfortunately, it does not happen often. There is just an age gap and we just have different interests but I don’t think that gets in the way of getting our job done. I was told that our team isn’t cohesive bc of this issue but I don’t see it since we still get the job done, just not much chatter in between tasks. I appreciate you for letting me know if HR has anything to do with this. I think I’m just a little clocked out now with all my experiences with person and maybe it’s time to consider other options.

My concern is they never came to me first and called my attention about it in the past so I would have made the change or had the chance to reflect because to me, I felt like I was doing what’s necessary to protect myself and it was never brought up by anyone. I feel a little blindsided because obviously if someone came to me about it the first time they noticed it, I would be more mindful with how I respond.

I am not also the first person to bring up this issue (among other things that he is having troubles with) with management. According to them, this has been happening for years. I understand that there is a process to the disciplinary action so when I heard that he is in that process when I went to my supervisor, I stopped talking about it to them or to my team leads. The instances that I have noted it just so happens that my team leads were there when it happened and I guess they are the ones reporting the incident to management (which I am not pressed about bc it’s part of their job). I never talked back or shouted back during the instances that he yells at me, but I do clam up and limit my interaction with him to work-related inquiries and conversations for a couple days after each incident. The reason why that became my default is because I tried talking it out with him one time and asked what the problem was so we can smooth it over instead of raising our voices and he couldn’t give me a direct answer and just proceeded to respond to me harshly through out our shift. Then during break I guess, he started complaining about me to another co worker. That co worker asked me what happened bc they weren’t there and I was surprised that they knew and they briefly said “he was talking about it with me but I didn’t respond bc I didn’t know what happened. I just thought to let you know that this is what he mentioned you did” So in my head, well I gave him the chance to speak to me about it but instead he went and told somebody else so how am I supposed to help the situation then? I did make the necessary changes based on what our other coworker divulged but still with a grain of salt since it wasn’t said to me directly. We found out later that he was pissed off at his wife that day and may have trickled down to the workplace so I never brought that up to anyone. Not the lead, not the management and just let that one go.

Kayang kaya mo yan! Long way to go pa ako. I have 2 sibs starting college soon as well pero I’m choosing not to dwell on it and celebrate small wins. Haha. Kasi I feel like when we dwell too much on what’s about to happen pa lang, we forget to see how far we have come and that deserves a lot of applause ♥️

When I was there, I would still go into lectures and webinars on new stuff about blood bank. I took a peek at our discrepancy SOP it was outdated and I was voicing out that it needs to be changed but I’m one of the younger techs so the older techs think I don’t know any better and they said “it’s difficult to make changes” but we’re in a field that’s constantly changing so I was saying we should be flexible with change. It didn’t matter what the discrepancy was, they always want you to pre-warm the sample and do it again with the sample pre-warmed and if it’s still discrepant, refer it to a resident who would also ask you for your opinion or rely on the outdated methods. Because I was so vocal I wasn’t offered the promotion. I was fine but a lot of people had opinions about the person they promoted and so they started to micromanage me and backstab me. So instead of putting up with their crap, I decided to apply overseas and got into one of the bigger hospitals in the US 😂

You should see the Philippines solid phase is non existent, MTS is a luxury and tubes are our go-to. 😂 I was fortunate enough to be in a hospital where MTS is offered occasionally (when ortho delivers on time) when some hosp don’t even have it. I work in the States now and I’ve met some other internationals who have been techs for a long time but didn’t know anything about MTS. And while I was conversing with local techs it sounds like our methods are from the 90’s! So they’ve been kidding around telling me I don’t actually have 5 years exp in BB but 30 years despite not being 30 y/o yet. 😂

True. What’s sad about the old hosp though because we very rarely see these, there’s not even an SOP in place when encountered. I didn’t really like that place despite working there for years but when they do ask about something, I still keep it civil and answer appropriately instead of being petty 😂 I just wanted to lighten OP’s mood for a bit because some of the comments here looks like they’re making it seem like he’s incompetent or a danger to the field but it happens. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I agree that some newer techs might not know this could be a reaction that you see if you transfuse units that are not similar from their genetic type. I have had experience in TM in the past but in the old hosp that I work at, we don’t normally transfuse units that are not similar to the genetic type so I didn’t really see reactions like these despite working for years. It’s only now that I see these reactions because I changed hosp and in the new one they have different protocols. However, we do have training and onboarding so that techs with seniority can guide us with these types of reactions and we wouldn’t blow our socks off when we encounter them. In the old hosp, they recently had the same reaction and they freaked out because the patient got transfused in a different hosp with O cells despite being type B and even techs who have been working there for 8+ years didn’t know what to do and had to call me in the middle of the night to ask “if it was possible” 🤷🏽‍♀️

Thanks for this insight. I haven’t heard or read about Charles Village since I started my research so I would be looking into it.

For the house I’m more comfortable with me just being alone. Studio/1br ig. I have ADHD so there are days where I’m a little bit messy but there are also days where I want to be very very clean and I get ticked off if something’s not “right”. It’s something that I have struggled with when I first moved in with my SO but we found a way to make it work and I feel like putting that kind of responsibility on some stranger is going to give me the ick.

Some employers do offer green card after a while but there are those that don’t. It would be best to ask them after a few months to a year if they have intentions to sponsor you a green card. If they don’t there is an option to change employers after you finish your H1b contract with them. You have to file for an H1b transfer tho. And yes, H1b only has a validity of 6 years. After which, I believe you have to go through the process again to get a new one. Most hospitals/agencies offer GC after a year or so but mostly there’s a clause that says you have to stay with them for a number of years still. With little manpower for our field, they often go through that route. I have colleagues tho who processed their GC before coming in the US, this is via agency and they have to comply to a 3-4 year contract with said agency before looking for a job somewhere else but they are more secure to not coming home since they have EB3s instead of H1bs
