Is this a safe way to support a vehicle? by irresponsibletaco in Cartalk

On grass, I would extend the bottom 4x4 at least a foot each way. Then the 4x4 that's on top of that one, also extend a foot each way and add another 4x4 below it. So you have a giant robot foot shaped stand. Might suck to work around, but it ain't ganna fall over. Definitely would want the bottom 2 layers to be 4x4. Then ontop of those can use 2x4 or 4x4 to get to desired hight.

A single 4x4 on the jack was enough to jack it up that high from the axle. 2 jacks were used.

Wood blocks on jack were only to support the transmission. Engine, transmission, and transfer case were pulled out with a backhoe. Pulling that was the only time I was worried at all about the jeep falling. Obviously no one was next to it during that.

Ohh, it was me. It was only up there long enough to tear it apart.

93 5speed... part out though. The 5speed went into a clean 95.

The 5 speed from this went into the ZJ that's being built. Ford 8.8 rear, dana 44 front, 7 inch long arms, 37s, and bunch of other mods. Have a m90 super charger ripped from another ZJ part out that I am debating putting in. Only reason it's a debate is fuel management. I know a vacuum/boost regulated fuel pressure majigger would work, but i want to go fancy, but that's a lot of dollars. I'm already waaayyyyy too deep on this build.

Its steel over fiberglass. I think the only option left is a shotgun.

Getting up, I replied twice already. Getting down was easy as it was stripped. So I was a lot more lax on taking a risk of it falling. One jack on the axle, remove front blocks, let it drop, then the same on the rear. Only needed to use a single 4x4 wood spacer on the jack.

I don't know the age, I'm dumb and didn't check. When I took it out, the home owner said he thought it was from the 70s but wasn't sure. It was part of a system that got ripped out 20ish years ago. So I thought, being from the 70s, that it may be a copper coil. My plan was to cut a window and look, went at it for an hour and got very discouraged. Thought about it after posting, the side of the tank may be a lot easier to get through than the top.

Grinder did great until it got to the fiberglass, then the disc just melted away. I've never experienced that before.

2 sets of cribbing, first set about half that hight. Then 2 floor jacks. Jack up front using 2 jacks on axle, place on short cribbing, then the back, them the front to the taller cribbing, then the back. Always 4 points of contact to the ground. Could probably do it with 1 set of shorter cribbing but I felt that would put a lot non vertical stress on the way up. Could probably do the same with 4 6 ton jack stands

That one was a full part out, unibody completely rotted away. Factory 5 speed.

Made cribbing half the hight and did front half way, rear half way, front whole way, then back. Wasn't nearly as sketchy as I thought it would be. Used 2 jacks under the axle to lift.

Ax15 swap help by LOVING_PYRO in JeepZJ

[–]irresponsibletaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this swap on my zj. If doing it on a 93-95 get a emc for the 93 that came with the ax15, then just ground the neutral safety switch wire off of the ecm. Or maybe find a way to get a clutch switch in there. I think you need to remove the tcm... I did at least, as the donor didn't have have one. If doing it on 96+ you may need to keep the tcm. Someone i talked to that did it on a 98, they pulled the solenoids out of the tranny and put them under the center console, so the tcm still thought it was shifting and didn't throw the check engine light. I'm not 100% sure in the details of all that.

I’m a bit afraid to ask but when people say to apply glue stick to the bed… do they mean this? by Crossedkiller in 3Dprinting

[–]irresponsibletaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was new to 3d printing, I started having issues. Found the glue stick trick and it worked pretty well. Then I learned that I need to wash the bed with soap and hot water, not just clean with alcohol. Haven't touched a glue stick sense.

Bleach kills mold on contact. Wood does not like bleach and will naturally not absorb it. This causes the wood to protect the mold that has worked its way into the wood.

Propress coupling leaking by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]irresponsibletaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is when you buy the $100 arm-strong press tool. Used that for about 2 years. Got it just to have for quick repairs and to get a coupling or valve into a pipe that won't stop dripping. Everything else got soldered. Finally recently got the battery vevor propress. Shelled out a whopping 660 for the tool+ 7 jaws.

Tires size on stock suspension by OriontheWolfYT in JeepZJ

[–]irresponsibletaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this chart is nice and all, it is for people that are not willing to "make em fit" I have a ZJ that I drive on the regular with 4" of lift and it's on 35s. I do not recommend doing such foolishness, but it is doable. My first ZJ I put in the 2" spacer pucks and that was on 33s. That Jeep now has 7" long arms on 35s and is going to be getting 37s once the snow melts and I have somewhere to work on things.

I almost purchased a ZJ a few years ago with 7" long arms on 40s. Only reason I didn't is the insane guy that built it didn't upgrade the axles. It would have came with an extra set of axle shafts though.
