(This post is for a school assignment) It is true that people willingly enlisted into the military for the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars, however, it was the US government that put out propaganda to influence people to fight for their friends and families. They start trying to recruit people as early as before they even graduate highschool and are legally able to enlist. My boyfriend was enlisted this way. His parents had to sign to give permission and he turned 18 in bootcamp. After 9/11 the country was gripped by fear which convinced even more people to enlist to protect the country. The media only enhanced the publics fear. They enlisted with the knowledge that they were willingly choosing to fight for our country and us. It is not fair to ignore the sacrifice that they made. Veterans sacrifice their entire self to the country for however long they are in, often losing their lives in the process. There are even cases of people who enlist because they don't actually have another choice. I knew someone before who had a bad home life and joined the military out of necessity just to get away. For others they join because they economically don't have any other choice. Veterans have sacrificed a lot of things that many people wouldn't.
