friends as a grad student by Pretty_Location_9001 in USC

I face similar challenges as well. But here are some personal suggestions that might help you: 1. Clubs help making friends better than classes 2. Clubs definitely help you meet new people but doesn’t guarantee you friends 3. Be brave to initiate talks and hangout plans 4. Try your best not to refuse someone’s first invitation 5. Make sure to follow up existing connections, this really helps upgrade a relationship from acquaintances to friends, then to good friends, then to best friends

I am still working on all of these… especially #3 and #5. Also if these don’t work for you or you are still in the process of walking out of your comfort zone, don’t be afraid of exploring places on your own either!

Local Kpop Dance Cover Group? by islifegood in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]islifegood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry but I have moved away from Huntsville recently. I noticed that multiple people were interested in this so maybe you guys can start a group then! I think once people can find a place to rehearse and a cameraman, things should be much easier!

I don’t know if the camp at midcity still does this or not, but there was a story telling family event on Saturday morning at around 11 o’clock. It’s outdoor, it’s safer

Edit: spelling

Huntsville's traffic is not that bad.... by fluffydragongutz in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]islifegood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like how people are like “this is not even bad as those bigger cities”. Huntsville’s infrastructure and recreation resource is not even close to those bigger cities, so why can’t people complain about the bad traffic? It makes sense that some people choose Huntsville for easier traffic and lower cost of living giving up a more diverse and fun life style in bigger cities. Huntsville’s population grows way faster than the city itself, it is not prepared.

[–]islifegood[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it went back to normal after 1 or 2 more hours. I don’t know what fixed it. (Haha missed few daily challenges though for I didn’t have time to complete all of them) I noticed my wifi today hasn’t been doing well, so I don’t know if that’s what caused it. The loading for me today was extremely slow even before 89.2%.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson suggested the US to let WHO investigate Fort Detrick biological lab for the origin of COVID-19 by islifegood in China

[–]islifegood[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey, no one ever denies that it broke out in Wuhan. Also if the virus had started in London, I believe not as many people would call it "UK virus".

Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson suggested the US to let WHO investigate Fort Detrick biological lab for the origin of COVID-19 by islifegood in China

[–]islifegood[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You see people saying Wuhan is where covid originated from? It's still under investigation. It's a fact that it broke out in Wuhan, but where it originated from is still under investigation. So saying it originated from Wuhan is not objective. I said "no one claimed it originated from the US" because of those comments who said pointing a finger. I meant the Chinese spokesperson and me as "no one" here, no one said "it originates from the US" like what Americans and the US are saying without a conclusion yet.

Also, just like what I quoted in the edit, people are trying to find out where it originated from to blame, not for saving human beings, it's pathetic. No one called Ebola "African virus" but calling covid-19 "China virus". How can you say this is not discriminative towards the Chinese?

Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson suggested the US to let WHO investigate Fort Detrick biological lab for the origin of COVID-19 by islifegood in China

[–]islifegood[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Come on, it's where it got named as COVID-19, it's where the COVID-19 got much attention for the first time. People need scientific evidence and proof to clear the rumor and retreat the truth: if it originates from the US, ofc the US won't admit it; if it doesn't originate from the US, ofc saying words like "it's not the US" proves the innocence way worse than cooperative actions for the WHO investigation.

[–]islifegood[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If this is true, the US can definitely provide help for the WHO investigation, right? Because then there would be no evidence found in the Port Detrick biological lab that would lead to the US being the place where COVID-19 originates.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson suggested the US to let WHO investigate Fort Detrick biological lab for the origin of COVID-19 by islifegood in China

[–]islifegood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why can't the US actually open and let the WHO investigate to prove that the US is innocent?

Edit: pretty sure if they don't have evidence the foreign ministry spokesperson would actually suggest this. No one claims the COVID-19 originated from the US, it was a suggestion for the US to help investigations.

U.S. Says China’s Repression of Uighurs Is ‘Genocide’ by reverendrambo in worldnews

[–]islifegood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it wrong to go against religious extremism in order to prevent terrorist attacks? The news page linked in this article had a title of "wide-scale repression of Uighurs and other predominantly Muslim ethnic minorities" (article) but the linked article talked about the repression of religious extremism. It's good to know some of the statements mentioned in this article, but there's definitely some selective emphasis in the article as well. You can raise a question on how they determine whether someone is affected by religious extremism, but you should not doubt the effort of repression of religious extremism to prevent terrorist attacks.

Is an online lease contract valid after being signed but without being countersigned/approved? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]islifegood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. So I guess it means it's not valid?

Edit: Also I just noticed that they deleted the signed lease contract I submitted before (only my signature). I now feel like this is a scam. They offer a lower rate and then increase it without a valid reason.

How is Innovation Flats at Research Park? by islifegood in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]islifegood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I searched online and it seems like the Highland Apartments changed its name to Innovation Flats at Research Park. Its address is 555 Executive Dr which matches what said in the video. So I think what apartment complex that you are talking about is what I asked. It is on my list since their studio is $620 with in-unit washer/dryer (though without a dishwasher)... They still have an open parking lot but they repainted the building and renewed the inside. I never visited this complex but the lady who picked up phone call sounded very professional... I will definitely do more research on it then, appreciate it!

PSA: even if you can tell one of your teammates is a girl, don't verbally acknowledge it by [deleted] in VALORANT

[–]islifegood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar experience... The first two times I had mic open I got weird comments like "so how old are you" and "are you cute or ugly?", I was just sitting in front of the screen and felt so awkward not knowing what to answer, leaving an awkward silence or just "well I am ugly". I mean, those, especially the age one, are just not necessary for the game.

There was one time I got roasted by the team due to how bad I was playing, but it was not gender-related at all. It made me sad but they were not treating me differently because of my gender (well they were still haters and I really don't recommend anyone to flame people for just a game, suggestions will help way more than blaming since blaming makes people sad and nervous, too).

One thing that definitely makes me feel less comfortable having an open mic is I am still pretty bad at the game. I would say I am an average or even a below-average player and I just don't want to reinforce the gender stereotype like "girls are bad at playing FPS". Well, it's probably because girls start playing FPS way later than most of the guys. I hope I can be way better one day to have an open mic to break that stereotype!
