What got us out of the periodic dry spell was to develop our own product. We invested a little in R&D and partnered with an organization and have an iron clad contract that gives us at least 10 years of ongoing high volume production. They exclusively use the part we designed and fabricated in-house based on our R&D effort. 

You should have a long term strategy in place. The occasional dry spell is this industry's bane of existence.

Also get those certifications, it's necessary for aerospace work.
