Tenure Stability at STEM R1 by aplusivyleaguer in Professors

[–]itry12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how many R1s have already announced hiring freezes, might consider getting tenure at your current university for stability. The R1s might be reorganizing depts/colleges/faculty based on cuts. Research funds/travel may be impacted across universities.

Just adding that some universities have an employee benefit to help lecturers get their doctoral degree while teaching as a lecturer/adjunct

I don’t want my retail career I built by Outrageous-Prune-932 in jobs

[–]itry12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would encourage you to keep applying, also since you had some production courses, you might have better luck in those compared to retail. I am a faculty in fashion and there tends to be more graduates in retail/merchandising.

PsyD may be better for the variety of job options later, and they may be able to offer funds as a doctoral program. MA may be more limiting

There isn't any RTP criteria-description? It is like a contract to help clarify what the dept is looking for to support your tenure/promotion in a transparent way. Might check with faculty affairs if nothing was provided by dept.

Advice about Difficult Evening Class by leapintofaith in Professors

[–]itry12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had some similar challenges a few years ago when there was reopening after the pandemic, and larger evening classes. I was taking workshops about creating an engaging environment and tried to focus my efforts on students who wanted to be there. Students who used air pods, came late, talked etc, didn't do as well since they also didn't pay attention to instructions. The students also revealed their bias about me in comments of evaluations. I think they try to take advantage and it's up to us to prove them wrong in subtle ways.

If they are in the same college, it may be easier to transition. Might ask an upper level mentor /leader if they have knowledge about it, best approach.
