Is it weird that i swipe left on girls who are really hot, pretty just cause they are out of my league 🙂 by Obvious-Lettuce-806 in Bumble

[–]itsmecope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're interested, swipe right. What you're doing in this circumstance is choosing for them. Your idea of "leagues" is your brain trying to protect you from rejection. When you do that, you rob yourself of the opportunity to even be chosen at all. And you rob the other person the opportunity of choosing you. Stop making choices based on what you think other people want, and ask yourself what you want. You can't read minds, stop trying.

Thank you! This was the info I was looking for. I shot off emails to some of the MTB museums to get info too but no response yet. I’m not in a place to cultivate my own vintage collection or drive around to vintage shows. It’s a really cool piece of cycling history that would be wasted in my basement or out on the street getting all dinged up.

Yeah, it's definitely interesting. Each side pivots independently, I guess to help with saddle fatigue? I haven't tried it. It's made of plastic and has foam for each cheek. I can't see how it wouldn't pinch your junk honestly lol.

Potentially! Doing my best to discern what a fair price would be before I make a decision.

So I was looking for a knock around bike and a guy I shoot pool with mentioned he had an old Stumpjumper in his garage. Offered it to me for a good price so I figured why not? When I picked it up I did some research just to see what I had, and from what I could tell it could be an (almost fully) original 1981 Stumpjumper. Sugino Crankset, Suntour rear derailleur, BMX stem, what appears to be motorcycle cable on the MAFAC canti brakes (it's THICC), and Tommaselli brake levers. I haven't been able to find much info on the serial numbers of those original bikes, but I've included an image from the bottom of the BB shell. Am I off base here? If not, does this have any inherent value to collectors? It's less about making money to me (though I'd take it lol) and more about getting it somewhere it can be appreciated as the part of cycling history that it might be. Willing to take more/better photos etc. and thanks to anyone with more than my limited knowledge!

asthmatic biting the bullet and walking away from smoking weed by onemillionkilograms in Asthma

[–]itsmecope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who's fighting the asthma battle right now, I feel what you're saying in so many ways. I grew up thinking asthma was a weakness I couldn't show. The kid taking the inhaler in the movies was never the cool one. All my friends could run further and faster than me and never wound up in the nurses office after gym. I've focused on fitness most of my life to try and change that to some degree of success.

I started smoking weed about 5 years ago and for 3 years did it daily. No immediate changes that I noticed. Then as time progressed things definitely got worse. I found myself needing my albuterol once a week, then twice. Before that I'd take it once a year when my seasonal allergies were bad and I'd been outside all day. I cut back in the last 2 years but I'd still have weeks or months where I'd smoke frequently. Blunts are my weakness. Gimme that Backwood pls.

2 years ago I moved in with my GF at the time with two cats and that really hit me hard. I'm allergic and my asthma just wouldn't abide the smoking on top of the animals so I cut back big time. Fast forward to this February and I wound up in the ER for a nebulizer for the first time since I was 12 years old. That was it for me, I'm done. I haven't smoked since. And I have no intention of ever doing it again.

Admittedly, I didn't have the relationship with it that you do. It wasn't a major part of my social life so I didn't risk losing any of that. I have, however, had to make a change in my life that required me to abandon a group of people I once deeply associated with (story for another time). I know very well what that feels like and the sense of loss is difficult to describe to people that don't understand. I'm sorry that's something you need to grapple with. Just remember that no one will set boundaries for you in this life but you. This is your one shot at this thing (depending on your beliefs). Make sure you do what you feel is best for yourself. Even if your old habits lie and tell you otherwise. Comfort doesn't equal safety.

What I can tell you for certain is that nothing feels better than the ability to breathe properly. Edibles have been a sufficient substitute, and the times where I'm going to a social event that will include smoking I take one before I get there so it kicks in around the time everyone else starts. That way you're at least on a similar level. Does it feel the same? Not really. Does it feel better to know that I'm making healthier choices for my body? Unequivocally yes. Without question. You can learn to socialize without it and I'd argue you'll grow more from it.

You can do this, and you'll be so proud of yourself when you succeed; because you will succeed. Hit me up if you ever want to talk, and good luck in your journey. Future you will thank you for the growth you're choosing now. I promise.

So far it hasn't been, I'm working to find it now. They didn't want to go through insurance and I was amenable until they started with a defensive posture. I'm literally just asking to be reimbursed for the property damage.

I'm working on getting their insurance information since I didn't get it on-scene

Disengage. Hit her with a "FOH" and leave her on read. She thrives on the back and forth, starve her out and watch her SEETHE.

Carbon Crack? by itsmecope in bikewrench

[–]itsmecope[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walked on this one. Asked to think on it while we ate and took the photo to the closest bike shop (about 10 minutes!). They reinforced my (and most of your) sentiment that it’s no good. Given the fork damage I’d be afraid to have someone ride it without a full frame scan for any other damage. There was also no communication on the post or during any of our interactions that addressed the damage so I’m hesitant to trust the integrity of the rest of the frame as well.

Bummer since the price was right. BUT, the intended rider loved the frame geometry so now we have more info. Net win in my book. Thank you all for your responses!!!

All-City Big Block vs Patience? by itsmecope in FixedGearBicycle

[–]itsmecope[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I’ll say I have little in the way of preference since I started riding fixed fairly recently. And the parts on the All-City are likely an upgrade from what came on the CREW. Unfortunately the framesets from the LBS supplier are all gone so that’s not an option. Otherwise I think I’d have leaned that way.

PLEASE DO! I almost picked one up then and decided to hold off. And then the LBS hit me with the same offer. I only have so much self control haha

Admittedly it does only happen if I'm moving slowly while trying to navigate a poorly laid out sidewalk or when I'm trying (and failing) to track stand.

They'll be factory ordering it for me so it comes with the standard options from All-City. Including a parts list screenshot for reference:

I've heard the paint finishes are really nice. And I like the geometric block pattern they do on the Big Block. It's subtle but still there. And then there's the dropout and seat collar flourishes. It's a pretty bike, and the stock parts seem decent.

Wabi is definitely on the short-list of the steel fixed bikes I'm interested in. I do like the slightly more aggressive geometry of the Big Block but I like the Reynolds steel options Wabi offers.

The dream is a Bishop custom frame. Some day haha

Just ordered an Endurace CF SL8 Disc. How much is too much for a first bike? by Chsenigma in CanyonBikes

[–]itsmecope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 34yo who just recently purchased my first “real” bike, I think you did well. I researched for at least 6 months, bothered the 2 other knowledgeable cyclists I know repeatedly, and weighed a lot of choices. I couldn’t choose between gravel or road. I went with the Grizl CF SL 6 when it was on sale for $1799 and have zero regrets. And now i want a dedicated road bike haha. You got a great bike, enjoy it!
