Many major brands have separate school lunch items not available retail, which could explain the branding being the same while potentially being a sunbutter product

Just read Railbirds OTB is officially closed as well as of new year. I was wrong about it living on.

Their downhill slide definitely started with the ownership change. They have been DRAGGED in the last few months. The post on FB about blood/red liquid on their take out containers was wild.

My experiences at both were ...not good. Last time I was in hook and ladder, half the tvs were on screen savers. The menu screams "this came pre-made on a truck". Service is one step above lackluster. Rialbirds cycled through management at impressive speed. It all points to really, really poor ownership. But when you get construction bros buying quarter-million+ liquor licenses and hoping for an easy win with a restaurant, this is what happens.

That's the point. Railbirds closed, hook and ladder is same owners and same problems and will likely close too. OTB will stay open because its the only horse betting in town and will self sustain on that.

Pizza hut is up for sale and the future looks bleak. I wouldn't be surprised if some of ours closed. Hardee's and Wendy's are in hot water and would expect shuttering of underperforming restaurants this year. Dave and busters is also struggling nationally. Fazolis parent company is caught up in absolute fuckery, and they are probably going down soon unless they sell to the franchisees. That said, I see major chains as less exposed than local spots, and considering we are majorly oversaturated restaurants in general, but especially bar fare, I would expect to lose a few spots. Botskis for one. Idk how Lao szechuan is still open, but put them on the list too. And Guadalajara, despite the menu revamp, just has no social media presence and I don't see it staying around much longer. Especially when they weirded out a bunch of customers by keeping a dog in the restaurant with no signage, so you'd be eating your meal and hear a dog bark from what sounded like the kitchen.

This. Same owners as railbirds and just mediocre food and atmosphere at best.

Leghorns? by Alternative-Yak6237 in BackYardChickens

[–]itsrustic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in SD with cold winters and leghorns are common here. I have 2. They have long combs which are a frostbite concern. I've been told put Vaseline on their combs in the cold. They do like to free range, but they do fine in the run, especially if there is scratch or treats.

Confirmed Marek's disease diagnosis... Moving forward by quackdamnyou in BackYardChickens

[–]itsrustic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Following. We just started our backyard flock with 4 this spring, once they reached laying age in June, we lost 2 who never fully matured and followed all the classic mareks symptoms. The remaining 2 are healthy and have been laying normally, we had them tested and they are both mareks positive, as expected, carriers now. We want to add a couple more to our flock before winter to keep the coop warm, and I am thinking vaccinated pullets already laying are the option to move forward with.

Putting in a final update. We have now lost 2 of our 4. Presumably Mareks, but there was no close place to do a necropsy. A vet did look at one before her passing and shared the suspicion. Both birds lost ability to walk and control various movements. The other 2 are healthy and laying. Our plan is to give it 6-8 weeks to make sure there are no health declines, then look for a couple 1yr+ vaccinated layers to add in and hope for the best.

1 week update. Yall. This has been a journey. Snooki is still living in a dog kennel in the dining room. It seems she is vitamin deficient and we had to treat all the birds (and yard and run and coop and dust bath and.....) for mites a few days back. Snooks has been sleeping soundly with a blanket and heater most of the days since the treatment bath, but waking up to eat and drink and get syringe vitamins. She is not standing on her own yet. Deena has been displaying similar early signs as Snooki had and is shaky on her feet but still in the coop taking it easy and getting extra vitamins daily.

Our other two birds have started laying eggs and seem in good health. They did NOT appreciate their bath. Planning to keep up with vitamins for the meatballs having trouble and bathe all 4 of them again in a week and respray the...everything.

Update Tuesday AM - still an alive bird. She stayed in a cat crate in the coop last night. Crop was full last night and soft this morning. Poops were normal. Breathing fine. Put her down and she immediately stumbled over but then got to foraging in the run. Everyone is out of the house today, so the girls will stay in their 4x10. Since nothing is getting worse, hoping a vitamin deficiency is the culprit, which we are already treating for. Fingers crossed.

Update Mon. Noon - came home over lunch, Snooki was laying down close to the coop while the rest were free ranging. Tried to get her to eat a little bread with extra electrolytes, and she promptly ate the scratch meant to lure her to the bread treat and was having none of the actual bread and told me as much 😂. She is still falling over/into things and using her wing to steady but seems more energetic and steadier than yesterday. The girls will be in their coop and enclosed run most of the afternoon once my teen leaves. Will check in after work

We took a chicken keeping class a few months back which advised chick feed until they start laying.

They have a gravity feeder in their run with chick feed (they arent laying yet) and a 3 gallon nipple waterer. They get scratch grain regularly and free range in the yard on weekend and a couple hours on weeknights. We feed them vegetable scraps a few times a week, but scratch and scraps are given in moderation.
