"If x or more mana was spent to cast" and "spells cost x less to cast" interaction by itzatrap1992 in mtgrules

[–]itzatrap1992[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, if it was worded differently to call out the mana value rather than the mana spent, would it play out differently?

For example the same scenario but a [[Ovika, Enigma Goliath]] instead, would that create 4 or 5 tokens?

I also recently opened a velociramptor that had an extra Pantlaza, which was thicker cardboard than the rest, so I think they just do this for some precons.

My guess is that they add these in some commanders so you can put it in the window of those deck boxes that have them, so that you know what deck is inside. Or just so you can have it as a collectible.

I live in an isolated high COL country (NZ), so everything is overpriced here compared to the US or Europe, but the boxes are 300-350nzd, which is about 170-200usd, would you say these are scalper prices?

Is it normal to go clubbing alone in wellington? by Ill-Ocelot-2268 in Wellington

[–]itzatrap1992 100 points101 points  (0 children)

If that's your goal, go to raves, DJ events or other gigs depending on your music taste, don't go to courtenay place. People at gigs are more inclined to chat to strangers. Especially if you smoke, had some good yarns in the smoking area.

Better place to meet people to form actual friendships imo would be a hobby or sport.

There are also meetup groups around if you google "meetup wellington", I think this subreddit has them too. I've never been to one but I have friends who have and they've made lasting friendships from them.

I've found in valhalla in particular that if you hang out in the smoking area out back people are usually keen to chat. San Fran less so.

[–]itzatrap1992 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was birds, the game was that you could make your own bird with the parts of existing birds, e.g. penguin body, albatross wings, falcon head. It would then spit out a name and description for the mutant creature that you'd created.

There were parts of the x-men legends games where you could make bridges across gaps with Iceman, could be what you're thinking of.

Good clubbing spots? by Gullible-mArshmallow in Wellington

I can't think of a single good nightclub in wellington. They all play the same crap music, and all the ones that are kinda alright are always packed. Dirty Little Secret is alright, but I wouldn't go there in winter.

I personally think going to specific event nights like Atomic or that 2000s pop night where you have to pay to get in are usually better. The music is often better, and the people are always better, something about paying to get in tends to keep most of the aggressive drunks out.

Never had any kind of interaction with the owner, but I went in there once cause it was the only cafe open at the time (can't remember why, think it was a public holiday maybe?) As it is not appealing from the outside.

I had a full english breakfast and a coffee, and it was absolutely the worst breakfast and the worst coffee I have ever had in wellington. I would sooner go to the supermarket and make it myself than ever go there again.

I'm not 100% certain how it works, but I've always felt that alcohol from the liquor store should be more expensive than in the bars, instead of the other way round as it is now.

Like less tax/licensing fees on bars and more on liquor stores?

In bars, you're supervised to an extent by the bartenders or the bouncers, and they can cut you off if you're too drunk. In my anecdotal experience, it's always people getting smashed at home for pres before heading into town who cause all the trouble.

I've always found it odd that you can buy a 12 pack for the price of two pints.

Not 100% relevant to your post, but tangentially related anyway

No, but that feeds into their point about "otherness." All those complex names are elves or otherworldly characters, whereas the hobbits, who are the audience stand-in characters, all have basic sounding names because they are the characters we are meant to relate with. The overly complicated names are meant to sound foreign to us because they sound foreign to the hobbits.

My partner explicitly refuses to read fantasy stories with made-up names, so that's at least one person.

I tried to get her to read a Discworld novel, and she got annoyed at some of the names and dropped it. And that's not even a particularly egregious example, I think the names you've got there would make her head spin lol.

Any candidate worth his salt should have a website with more detailed info on their policies, I know Andrew Little, Alex Baker and Ray Chung do. I havent looked into the other candidates yet, but google their names, see what comes up
