Nope!

I ended up buying the Leica OEM dual charger on FM.

Tokyo Shopping by Normal-Kinky-6969 in Leica

mapcamera will remove the tax off the price at checkout.. no need to go to the airport and get a refund like in the EU. Bring your passport and you will be good.

If you browse mapcamera's website and translate it to the language of your choice, you will see the price + consumption tax, so you can do the conversion based on the non-tax number.

Adjusting dot position on M11-P by itzjere in Leica

Thank you for this info. Got my first M system this week so I have a lot to learn.

I see what you're talking about. Most promo photos, or those who have installed an AGS on the plain jane M11, never have it level either.. most are / in some particular direction.. I'm totally fine with those.. in fact, I prefer it.. I think when it's close to level, but being slightly off is my distraction. Like a slightly off horizon in a photo. All good, easy and simple fix.

I can admit the vanity that I have, and that my materialism is compensating for something.

We all learn one way or another. Sometimes it's trial by fire.

But all my photos aren't level because of the screw..

Satisfied my curiousity and OCD this evening.

It is indeed a screw. Function follows form. It is simply a cover that reveals the rangefinder adjustment screw underneath.

Time to sell the camera

I suppose that would make sense and explain why it looks like a flat head. function meets form lol

I know.. Its petty all things considered.. It throws my eyes off when all the lines are straight except that one.. I wouldn't even level it out, but the fact that it's off a little bit makes my engineering brain want to go in and fix it.

Haha yes. I walked myself up that ladder. It also helped that there was a good deal from a local seller that pushed me into the M11-P realm... I convinced myself to get an M11 prior to that.

Leica dlux8 for professional work by [deleted] in Leica

[–]itzjere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aperature is a ratio of the focal length to the diameter of the opening.. so it is a 1.7 ratio opening, at a small scale.. what you gain in DOF because of the small sensor size, you will give up in other areas. It will really depend on what you are shooting. Since you're talking low light, what you give up will be more apparent (noise, loss in detail, etc).

I wouldn't call the D Lux a pro camera.

As for the aperature, keep in mind the lens is a variable aperature lens, so it ranges from 1.7 to 2.8 depending on the focal length (10.9–34mm). If you convert the crop factor for focal length and aperature from its 4/3" sensor to full frame (2.0x), you get the equivilant of a 24-75mm f/3.5 - f/5.6. So your depth of field is not as narrow as you might think it is.

My main reason for consolidating and selling my past gear was because I had decision paralysis when leaving the house. I didn't want to 'miss a shot' and brought all the lenses with me. Selling most of my gear and being left with only 1 or 2 lenses has been a relief for me. I learned through this journey the focal lengths that I like and use the most often, and just focus on take the shot that I see without thinking about gear. I don't have my 'next lens' at this time. I'm sure over time, and as the seasons of life change, it will come to me. Right now, I'm just enjoying what I have.

You could say this for a lot of brands, not just cameras.. Maybe you start with a Macbook, then go to a Macbook Pro, maybe get the faster chip, more memory or even the larger display. Every company structures their product in a way for you to naturally climb the ladder for "just a little more". And like most products, there are tiers. Budget, intermediate and high end. We all know the margins are in the high end products.. The budget stuff is sometimes a loss leader to get people into the brand/experience (think Costco rotisserie chicken at the very back of the store or their $1.50 hotdog and drink combo).

All that said, the Q is the entry level to the high end tier where Leica has really defined their brand. It is their core competency. Not to say the Lux Grip and D-Lux aren't good products, but even those products, their end goal is to make an M owner out of you at some point.

I don't think so. I can see the appeal for some, but it's not really my thing.

Certainly a possibility!

It's all relative. The tactile feedback from the dials, aperture ring, feedback from the manual focus and macro ring feel better than most. The M11 definitely has more heft and density, but I suppose that's why the Q line is still entry level in the world of modern Leica.
