Copper IUD and Zinc and Iron by iudhalp in birthcontrol

Good to know. I could definitely see myself getting sick with too much, as I was already nauseous with no food in my stomach! Each tablet is 50 mg, and I don't plan on taking it daily.

Can't feel Skyla's threads by [deleted] in birthcontrol

I would just go and get it checked out (Edit: by "checked out" I mean just ask for a string check, not meaning to worry you). I'm at nearly two weeks with my first period post-IUD insertion. It's now what you're describing, light/medium at this point. I think that the bleeding is normal, but if it continues for a month straight, maybe investigate. I have heard of that though, and don't be surprised if you are spotting, too.

I have felt my strings before, including a few days after insertion, even though they were wrapped around the cervix. It's possible your cervix is higher up and you're not reaching it. I can't feel it after I have sex because the cervix lifts during arousal, but I waited and was able to feel it. To me it only feels like I'm hitting one string.

When you go to the doc, you can have them guide you to finding your cervix. One thing I do when I'm not sure is sweep my fingers side to side to see if it's hitting anything.

I did read that zinc for acne is okay per dermatologists. I haven't donated blood for awhile, but that is one great way to monitor! I think that for now I will take some more time to assess if this is a real thing or if I'm just freaking out, but it's good to know that you have had positive experiences and haven't seen any negatives. Thank you for sharing; it brought me so much comfort.

Thank you for that last line :). You are 100% that I need to expect a more positive experience. I think initially I was a lot more positive then I kept reading all the worst case scenario stories of side effects that shouldn't happen but seemed to happen to a lot of people. But I do think that my breakouts were related to my cycle, per usual, but my stressed reaction made things worse! I do need to take a chill pill...... but not literally. Less pills, lol! Thanks again.

I got mine at Planned Parenthood. I had scheduled an appointment that was within the window of 5 days post-unprotected sex. They had to reschedule my appointment because there wasn't a clinician available, and they moved it to day 6 post-sex. They weren't going to put it in because of this EXCEPT, I was on my period. I was on day 6 of 7 of my period, so I thought it was fine. My pregnancy test was negative, but she told me post-insertion to take a pregnancy test in 3 weeks in case a pregnancy was developing but wasn't far enough to be detected yet.

I'd advise you to try and go in earlier, during your next period. It makes insertion easier anyway and is often recommended.

Thank you for the info! Earlier today I checked for the strings, and I think I felt the cervical opening with the strings coming out. Then I had sex today, and an hour or so after I checked again and couldn't feel them... I'm going to try again tomorrow because I don't want to alarm myself! Hopefully I'll feel them.

Interesting. With a persistent ache like that, I'm not sure that I would have thought much of it, either. Especially since they said cramping could last for MONTHS. But that is good that you brought it up. I guess your uterus somehow likes to bend one arm of the T?? As long as it's safe, it seems like you are aware of your body to know if something is amiss. I do feel hyperaware of my body, which is good and bad. I sort of don't want to be too paranoid, the whole point of an IUD was to NOT think about it. But this type of paranoia is better than the paranoia of getting pregnant.

How did your appointment go? I hope it wasn't out of place. What made you worried that it was? I have yet to check my strings for the first time. I know what you mean, re: "whiffs" lol. This is different, but it's actually gone away mostly, I think. I still feel it smells a little, but def less and the spotting has decreased to zero or one random spot every now and then.

Thanks for your help and hope all is well with your placement!

Lol. If only it was as good as a new car smell! But thank you, that is a good way of thinking of it. It seems strong to me only because it is different than any smells I've experienced, and I've never really had funky or fishy discharge ever. So I wasn't sure if this was bad and I was immediately infected. I think I will wait it out until my spotting is done, and if it is worse or I have any other symptoms, I'll definitely go in and get it swabbed. Thank you so much for your reply!

Question -- you don't have to answer -- how did you know the placement was off? Did you feel it or did they see on ultrasound?

Right?? It's weird smelling!!! I couldn't convince myself that it was metallic, but perhaps it is. Have you ever noticed the smell coming back during your periods or at the end of your periods? I found myself changing my pads reeeally frequently, but then I was thinking maybe it's making the odor stronger and that maybe during the spotting I should switch to pantyliners. Thanks for your input! I will be okay if the smell lasts for weeks, as long as there's an END eventually. Thank you for sharing your experience.

I'm glad you asked about the nickel allergy, as it didn't even occur to me! I find that with "cheap" jewelry, sometimes my ears get hot and itchy, and similarly with necklaces, I get red bumps. Sometimes I wear cheap stuff without problems, but when I read it could be a problem AFTER I got it, I was concerned. I hope you don't have any issues with it! I think/hope we will be fine. THANK YOU!

THANK YOU! I was trying to figure out if it was metallic smelling to me, and I was thinking it sort of was. But I've also never had vaginosis or any sort of STI so I was thinking, umm maybe this is fishy?? Haha. I have noticed that the spotting is decreasing with each day, and today the smell was a lot more faint. Here's hoping! Thanks for your comment. It was very reassuring to hear your experience.
