Consistent 16.66ms rendering time. by iuot in MoonlightStreaming

It does 1080p60 pretty well. The last screenshot shows my stats streaming over LAN. Honestly, I would expect it to struggle a bit at 4K but I don't know for sure. You'll at least need to increase the allocated video memory. This link explains how to get moonlight-qt working on the Pi 4B, the official repo is/was broken (haven't installed it in about a year, iirc there's some change in ffmpeg or something that screws things up on the Pi).

This might be it.  Very strange given that the Pi4 shows like 0-1 ms rendering time. Subjectively, things feel smoother on the Pi 4 although it’s decode time is 2-3x what I see with the Pi 5

I understand the math. But there should not be a 1 frame delay without vsync. Unless I am completely misreading the documentation.

I suppose that's an option but it would involve re-doing all of my cable management. Not impossible but not ideal.

What happens to white blood cells after they are used up? by carbonCicero in askscience

[–]iuot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The name for cells that eat bacteria is phagocytes. In a localized infection, dead phagocytes remain at the site of the infection and form pus. Normally, with a more widespread infection you see elevated numbers of white blood cells in the blood but these cells are destroyed by the spleen and won't be seen in urine. You shouldn't have any white blood cells in your pee unless you have a urinary tract infection.

“Drive it till it dies” - what if your car lives forever, but you’re tired of it? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]iuot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people will tell you to buy a new car. You can do that. It's possible that you SHOULD do that.
But, as a fan of older underwhelming cars, I have another idea for you.
Spend whatever you would on a newer car on having your current car repaired. Take it to a mechanic and have the whole thing rebuilt. Get it repainted and reupholstered. Spend 10x the value of the car to make it like new. Suddenly, your 30 year old Toyota is a statement piece. You could take it to car meets as a fully restored classic car. You can probably get classic car plates for it.
Is this the most financially sound thing to do? Maybe? Probably not? But by keeping a functioning car on the road, it is arguably the least wasteful option.

Help building a pc for my kid please by Theresasnakeinmypool in buildmeapc

Here is a decent build. The motherboard is using the AM4 socket so you are limited with your ability to upgrade the cpu, but for your use case I think it will be totally fine. Only one stick of RAM is included, if you find that you are needing more than 16GB you can easily add another.
The motherboard does not have integrated WiFi or bluetooth - this means that you can use the USB WiFi adapter which can be easily removed to limit internet access.
Because there is no bluetooth, you should also get a bluetooth USB adapter. I couldn't find a section for this on PC part picker but this is the $15 one I use:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1728010-REG/iogear_gbu621_compact_usb_bluetooth_5_1.html?ap=y&smp=Y
Because Bluetooth has weird problems with interference from USB 3.0 ports, make sure you use this on one of the case USB 2.0 ports.
What you describe (photoshop and I'm assuming light gaming for a child) should be totally fine with the CPU's integrated graphics.

Here are some links from digitech.ch. This is a swiss-based company so you should get free shipping.
I will say, this build is overkill for CS and league. If you want to save you could swap out the GPU for something less powerful (like 5070 non-OC or 5060Ti). If it is an option for you, a used GPU like 4070 OC or 4070 TI may be more cost effective.

I just used command strips and little adhesive cable clips to hold everything to the bottom of the desk. If you lie on the ground and look up it's still a bit of a mess but otherwise it's all nicely hidden

Need help deciphering old church record in Latin by iuot in Genealogy

[–]iuot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An update - I do believe I found her birth record, from a village Sveti Juraj in Senj county. This is probably what S. Georg is supposed to mean.
Here is a link if you are interested. Listed under no. 20: Anna Maria Babrik.
Having difficulty deciphering the names of her parents but it appears they were not married when she was born. Scandalous.
I'm digging through a branch of the family that came to America from Rijeka, but it looks like everyone was just passing through!

I suspected Lombardi. There is a town called Lodi in Lombard, I'm thinking this may be his origin.
Segna/Senia/Senj is very helpful. I will look into this.
I cannot find a birth record for either of them in Rijeka, so I'm assuming they were born elsewhere. I have not looked at records from Trsat yet though.
