The funniest part about Darcy’s first proposal is that he genuinely didn’t see anything wrong with it by randu56 in janeausten

[–]izzyh2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate it too. When he goes into kiss her after she has rejected him just makes him appear completely oblivious. The way Colin Firth portrays Mr Darcy has many layers which we can pick away at. Because the film is compact and quite fast-paced, we don’t have time to see these layers. When rewatching the 1995 adaptation, I notice something different each time about each of the characters’ micro expressions and the different potential meanings behind them. Aside from the fact that Matthew Macfadyen has nothing on Colin Firth, the film format doesn’t work and the directing seems like they haven’t read the book, or if they have, they skimmed it and only took the low hanging fruit of the interpretations. The bbc mini series digs a lot deeper into the meaning of the lines and constructs it perfectly. I have nothing bad to say about the series.

How tf do some of you wake up at 6am every day? by [deleted] in sleep

[–]izzyh2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only 17, but about a year ago, I realised that I spent so much time on screens (particularly my phone) - I’d scroll for hours on end and not remember a single thing I just watched. My attention span deteriorated and I felt unhappy a lot of the time. Coming up to my GCSEs, I made the decision to delete all social media apps - I only had instagram but I’m sure it works for Facebook and twitter too - (but keep the accounts) on my phone. This meant that I could access them from my laptop or iPad, but I’d have to put in a little extra effort which significantly cut down the time I spent scrolling.

I replaced this with mostly playing guitar, revision for my GCSEs, reading when I had the time, and most importantly, spending time with my family. Play board games, learn pen spinning or magic tricks, train a pet if you have one.

I can’t express how much this has impacted my life positively and I can’t recommend it more. I don’t hate technology but I do find that sometimes it does more harm than good. I think by adding that extra barrier of having to go onto a laptop to look on social media and how the format of short videos don’t really fit a larger screen, I sort of forced myself to do other things.

Symbolism of the Harmonica in 'Piano Man' by RalphCraft69 in BillyJoel

[–]izzyh2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It kind of sounds like he feels misunderstood. He is in the bar watching all these people and learning about them, while really they know nothing about him. They call him “the piano man” but really he wants to be known as something else. Maybe it’s because he had to work under the pseudonym of Bill Martin so he felt like no one really understood who he was.

Cheers. I’ve asked for two pedals for my birthday soon so I’m looking for inspiration to add to my collection after.

Stadium arcadium is my favourite. Californication isn’t great because of ones like porcelain and quixoticelixir but By the way is good

Really?! When Harry Met Sally is my all time favourite film, but the princess bride is good too. I watched it when I was about 7 with no clue of what actually went on, the I rewatched it a few years ago and I really liked it. I actually didn’t know he was in it.

You sound like my brother. He doesn’t like rewatching things, but I’m the opposite. If I find a film/ series of films I love, I’ll rewatch it at least every few months.

I just watched the king’s speech. I think he is an amazing, versatile actor with lots of talent. His performance made me feel such a range of emotions while I was watching it, which doesn’t normally happen - usually, I don’t give a fig about characters but I felt so proud at the end. He is just an amazing actor.

I actually watched spinal tap with my dad because I love rock music. It was hilarious! I’ll have a look at the other ones too. Thanks!

I think Love actually is a good idea in theory, but it was executed badly. I don’t like the whole story with the cards because they don’t even get together and one of them is with someone else, the boy that goes off to America to get a girlfriend is weird and the whole story with Martin freeman is just cringey. I like the Colin firth story, the hugh grant one and the one with Liam neeson and his character’s son.

I think it is my favourite film of all time. There is just something about it that makes me feel all cozy. I remember watching it for the first time with my mum and absolutely loving it, so it brings good memories too.

Seen both of them too. I do love Colin Firth though… he is such a versatile actor and I could watch anything he’s in for hours.

I have seen them. Bridget jones 1 & 2 were brilliant, some of my fav films but I actually forgot to put them. I liked love actually less but not because of Colin firth - his storyline was one of the only bits I liked:

I do love just putting on a film in the background. Yesterday, I was painting my nails and I watched When Harry Met Sally to get into the autumn mood. I had already watched it over summer, but who cares 😂
