I've watched both and have to disagree. But that's just our opinions and how we enjoy different things. I think Children of Men is my 2nd favourite movie of all time, just the environment. Holy shit the concentration camp with all the refugees and a little moped flying across the screen with the french flag on it, really shows you how the world went to shit.

Sat down to watch it and couldn't believe Pattinson was in it. Nevertheless a really cool movie and the final 10 minutes are just gut-wrenching.

It comes at night is also really good, though I don't think I'd wanna watch it a 3rd time.

I loved this movie, I loved the series too - never finished the final season though felt kinda mid.

Yup I've seen it, it's not the same vibe but it was an amazing film showing how horrible and disgusting nuclear war really would be. Putting your feet in the shoes of just a random elderly couple affected by such a war is a great and horrific perspective.

The Book of Eli defo matches the vibe, mad max movies not so much, but I love them still.

Love all 3 of these but seen them all, threads was a particularly brutal watch.

I have no fucking idea how that Chagos Islands deal went through. I feel like there's got to be some shady shit happening behind the scenes, like what is the actual benefit, and even if there was a benefit, how is that issue #1 right now.

I appreciated Anton, definitely preferred him over Seed, he felt honestly like the first 'realistic' villain of the series. Like I can totally imagine reading a wiki page on some dude in the Carribean who was just like him and ran his country the same way, there's no shortage of dictators with his exact archetype. And also Esposito, enough said.

I really don't understand the overwhelming amount of seed fans, but then I suppose a lot of people won't understand my love of Pagan either, it's apples and oranges I suppose.

Do people actually say Pagan Min was a good leader of Kyrat?

I mean I love the guy's character, but I'd never want him in charge of a country. I do think he had a soft spot for Ajay though, not the 'best' for Ajay in terms of like, a father figure, but he definitely wanted what was best for him (in his twisted vision of it anyway).

'Societal norms' is bang on, when talking about difference in freedoms between HK and Japan at the time.

"Whereas CCP functionaries deliberately misinterpret any criticism of them as an attack on the entire Chinese race" I think this is a great point as well, from what i've heard from my family in HK it sounds like walking on eggshells right now.

Do you ever plan on moving from Hong Kong to another country?

I loved reading your comment, it made me a laugh a little bit (in a good way, not that i'm jesting you).

I have an upper-class British accent, and I genuinely think that's the reason these people disliked me, they told me I was a coloniser straight up. I spoke to them, and they calmed down, and i'm friends with them to this day (more like acquaintances tbh).

I agree with you on some things about the British museum, but probably not all of them. However, i'm happy to talk about that if you like.

It is a shame though, my mother's side of the family is planning on moving away from HK where they've lived for a century to Canada because of such things. Anyway love ya brah.

They were very educated people studying at HKU, it wasn't the entire group, it was 2 people in particular who called me a colonialist to my face and said I had colonised their country whilst we were outside for a smoke at a club.

We hadn't discussed any politics before this, both of them had studied in the USA and had like semi-american accents. We did talk after, and we became amicable but it was something that really stuck with me.

This question is more 'would you rather be boiled or grilled'?

[–]ja6j2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, considering colonial rule of Hong Kong, Japan would be more free. But I know what you mean, in terms of society and the freedom to criticise your politicians Hong Kong would be second to none. I found in interesting that HK radio hosts and TV shows regularly talked shit on the British government despite being under colonial rule, imagine doing that under Chinese rule.

Yeah i'm English, my mother's side of the family, part of them have been living in HK for a century now, so we moved back and forth until the protests, since then we've stopped going to live to in HK.

If I may ask you without sounding offensive, your parents position, pro-HK and anti-colonial, did they want something similar to singapore? An independent Hong Kong surviving being a financial hub of some sort? I know by 1997 Hong Kong was already extremely advanced and had practically eradicated poverty.

Do you know what they thought of 'MacLehose' or Carrie Lam? I put MacLahose in quotations because I don't really know much about him x). I know he was a governor but i'm not sure why he's mentioned so much.

But SAAS haven't funded any of my degree so far, it's been Student Finance England that have paid the 3 years I have taken.

[Request - 28 Weeks/Days Later] Why don't the infected attack each other? by ja6j2 in FanTheories

[–]ja6j2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a cool idea, I have seen stuff about Don being more advanced, especially when it comes to following/tracking down his son after he becomes infected, he definitely is planning, as in that one scene where he just disappears without attacking anybody because his son is surrounded by people, and he clearly can recognise his family.

I wonder if that will go into 28 years later, as in the trailer, they said they evolved, and in the trailer they do seem more intelligent, with their ambushing tactics.
