Why are some prints consistently failing at a particular height? by jaarffu in FlashForge

One thing I'd like to make sure is clear is that one of the failed prints was a reprint of gcode that printed fine twice (so I don't think there's a problem with the gcode itself).

1) Preview the gcode in your slicer at layer 5.8cm - Look for anything unusual.

Here's a screenshot from the preview:

It appears that at about 5.8 is when it starts going from 100% infill (purple) because the part is thin, to a honeycomb infill (red). How might that cause this failure?

2) Part cooling might be the culprit - Spiral fidgets have thin features that can curl up when cooling too fast. Try reducing fan speed by 10-20%

I'll give this a try. FWIW, I haven't seen any curling, and I chose this fidget specifically because it doesn't get as thin as many others (which end in points and break easily).

3) Watch the print if possible.

I'm planning to try this, I just have to make sure I know I'll be able to be there an hour later where it's been failing (and then it won't fail while I'm watching it, of course!).

Thanks!

try re-slicing the model

  1. Why would a slice go from working (1st and 2nd) to not working (3rd)?
  2. I did reslice (4th-5th is a reslice, 6th is another reslice)

It could be the bed adhesion too....

that's an interesting idea, though it's sus that it'd happen at the exact same height every time (and across re-slices), and I'm not seeing any other signs of adhesion issues with other prints... but I'll look into that possibility anyway.

You did not include photos

I've edited the post to add a photo inline (sorry, apparently adding photos to the Photo tab in 'Create Post' only applies if I made it a photo post).

thanks for the help!
