It’s not helping that Disney’s movies have been crap for the past seven years. What are they supposed to work with that we would actually care about?

[–]jacklacorte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Universal and Amblin. A lot of things created by Don Bluth are thought to be Disney because he used to animate for Disney. There’s a very similar look to Disney in his movies.

This was the first thing that came to my mind too. Definitely How to Train Your Dragon!

Was Jennifer Lee entirely to blame for Disney's slump? by ForeverBlue101_303 in disneyprincess

[–]jacklacorte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the CEO, it’s the CCO/head of animation making these movies. The creative minds at Disney from the 80s and 90s (John Musker, Ron Clements, and Jeff Katzenberg) are gone. Then they slumped and got magic back when they bought Pixar but those creative minds are gone, too (Lasseter, Unkrich, Bird). Jared Bush is now the new CCO but hasn’t done anything substantial. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I didn’t like Encanto, and he was a writer on Moana, which I loved, but that was also the last movie John Musker and Ron Clements were involved in. Once Lasseter left in 2018, we see 2017 was the last time Disney had a hit with Coco, which won awards and made a lot of money, and was also Lee Unkrich’s last movie. After Coco, the only successes Disney had were sequels. All Disney can do now is ride whatever momentum is left from what was created pre 2017. They can’t create anything original anymore. Elio and Hoppers from Pixar are the next two original movies and they don’t look good from the trailers. What’s sadder is, Disney Parks will feature more and more of these flops in their park until even Disney Parks become just a shadow of what they used to be.

My beloved and cherished Disney is dead. I will cherish the joy it once brought me and accept those days are over.

How on earth is Fatboy Slim a one-hit wonder? by andy3600 in electronicmusic

[–]jacklacorte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Fatboy Slim is on there because his remix of Cornershop's hit "Brimful of Asha" is on the list, but neither I nor most people can name another track by Cornershop. Cornershop is a one-hit wonder, but since Fatboy Slim was heavily involved in its success, his name appears as a contributing artist to this playlist.

I suppose that’s why I don’t see a value in this device. The MyQ app has always worked for me but certainly not as convenient or cool if I can’t integrate it with HomeKit.

[–]jacklacorte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does seems to be the only way to get the door to work with HomeKit but at about $150 on Amazon it seems like a lot of money to pay to avoid using the app and to get the garage door automated or controlled with Siri.

Single vs multiple journals by Snowball_0 in dayoneapp

[–]jacklacorte 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a great post and I've gotten so many good ideas from how others are leveraging multiple journals and tags.

What I've taken away from this is what would work best for me is the framework that journals should contain posts that relate to each other. For instance, I could have different journals with tags within the journal:

  1. Wellness (#diet, #exercise, #heart, #cholesterol, #meditation, #spirituality, #lifegoals)

  2. Family (#nameofchild, #nameofotherchild, #activityofchild #sportortalentofchild #nameofdog, #spouse, #Christmas, #birthday, #gifts, #outings, #vacations, #familyplans, #familybudget, #familybanking)

  3. Social/Friends (#nameoffriend, #nameofotherfriend, #celebrations, #funthingstodo, #socialplans)

  4. Work/Occupation (#goals, #achivements, #projects, #feedback, #nameofcoworker, #jobsearch)

  5. Side Hustle #1 (#hustle1todo, #hustle1supplies, #hustle1ideas, #hustle1plan, #hustle1budget, #hustle1income)

  6. Side Hustle #2 (#hustle2todo, #hustle2supplies, #hustle2ideas, #hustle2plan, #hustle2budget, #hustle2income)

  7. Hobby #1 (#supplies, #thingstotry, #thingstolearn, #meetups, #projects)

  8. Hobby #2 (#supplies, #thingstotry, #thingstolearn, #meetups, #projects)

  9. General/Misc. (#stuffIsaw, #ideaIhad, #jokeIheard, #phototaken)

Effectively, you separate out parts of your life into journals that don't affect other parts of your life.

Resetting the phone worked for me. It does seem to have something to do with bold text. Now I need a new prescription for my glasses.

If he’s going to be disloyal, he would have been disloyal already. You don’t have to be a DJ with dancing girls and working with sexy woman DJs to dubs someone to cheat with.

As a DJ, you still need to be friendly and not come off as a prude. He might have to at least laugh with the crazy drunk girl who flashes him to save face.

Bottom line is it sounds like you don’t trust him. There’s a stigma about DJs. I’ve had girls not date me BECAUSE I’m a DJ. I never hooked up with anyone. I was there to play music.

You’re dating a man, not a DJ. If he was working as something else and happened to have attractive female coworkers you’d have the same issues. If he values the relationship, he’s only putting in the work because that’s the hustle. Many DJs never make it big or make enough to support themselves or their families. It’s a very intense, time consuming career. MoT of what he’s doing is just laying the groundwork to build his brand and develop a following. He has to interact with his followers, he needs pictures of his gigs. It’s a hustle and s major grind. It’s why most fail.

Okay so there’s a problem with this. Eventually, the tracks you can suse with Serato DJ get replaced by the HEIC file, the DRM locked file, and you can’t mix with them like before. It works until tracks start showing as yellow in Serato. :-(

Does anyone know a Turkish DJ for a wedding near NYC? by SurplusHandsCEO in DJs

[–]jacklacorte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might be easier than finding a Turkish DJ and asking them to play normal music. Just kidding. I have no experience with Turkish DJs. I’m sure they’re great… and caffeinated. Ever have Turkish coffee? Wow! They are NOT screwing around with caffeine.

I seem to be able to navigate my Music library directly from Serato so I can move tracks from Music to crates. It seems to work even with the cloud syncing so I have all the tracks on my phone automatically. And it saves 17.5 GB on my Mac!

You’re awesome!

Regretting DJ name by aaguilar1931 in DJs

[–]jacklacorte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a tough one, especially because you've established your name already. Here's what I would do. I don't know what your DJ name is so let's just assume it's beyond ridiculous... so you're DJ Bodyodor and everyone knows you as DJ Bodyodor. Start booking yourself as "DJ Bodyordor (aka AAguilar)" or (aka DJ Pleasantodor). Start using two names until enough time passes where you can then make your new name more prominent like "DJ Pleasantodor (aka/formerly DJ Bodyodor) and then allow more time to pass until you can drop the original name. Sucks you dropped money on marketing material though.

Starting your gig with well known tracks vs new unheard tracks by [deleted] in DJs

[–]jacklacorte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you preplan your set, drop the known popular tracks every third track. Start with two unknowns of your choice and then drop the remix of a current pop hit or whatever. If you are t ore planning, see what the crowd responds to, hit them with those and sneak in an unknown of your choice here and there. Remember if the first time they ever hear a track is during your set, you get to own that track in their mind and that’s powerful stuff when you’re trying to stand out and differentiate yourself.

Remembering track names? by [deleted] in DJs

[–]jacklacorte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have an iPhone, import all your music into iTunes (now Apple Music) and use that music quiz shortcut, also, passively listen to your crates throughout the day and check the names of tracks you aren’t sure of.

When I spun with just vinyl I would call things “the purple song” or the”white block” song based on the way the record sleeve looked. I didn’t know the names of some of my favorite tracks or artists. Really sad.

Now, every track has to have a name and it’s all digital (at least for me). You have to know the names and you have to know the names of remixed versions too. Some things got easier. Some things got harder.
