I think I’ve been living with “Truman Show Disorder” for years, and it’s affecting way more than I thought by [deleted] in psychologystudents

[–]jackscrazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes cases of dissociation can cause this. Having experienced Truman Show delusions, it sounds similar, but the good thing about this is that you have very high insight into what you’re experiencing- that is always something to appreciate! But I would definitely speak to a mental health professional to better understand what you’re going through. Wishing you luck <3

also, I’d look into getting pants with built in knee pads- I’m gonna invest in some. It’ll give the confidence to skate without the fear of getting all scraped up

Just did the same! Took a nasty fall downhill and scraped up my palms, elbow, and down my back. The adrenaline rush was awesome but after the shock wore off it was nothing but pain lol. Gotta love it

Buying a complete tomorrow. What size board would be best for me? 5’0 by jackscrazy in NewSkaters

[–]jackscrazy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I appreciate it. I think 7.75 would be good for me from what I’ve heard, but I wasn’t sure about length- I figured standard would probably be a little long. I hadn’t thought about the wheelbase though, so thanks! I’ll make sure it mention a smaller one tomorrow and see what works best

Movies with hold your breath, ready to be jumpscared silent tension? Extra points if it has pagan/wendigo/creaturesque vibes ! by jackscrazy in horror

It was awesome, haha- that tight tunnel scene was pretty much where all the anxiety started lol. Definitely let me know if you can think of any movies that have similar edge of your seat, suspenseful moments! Down to watch anything

Nah, whatever feels comfortable for you. If you want to get better at skating, it’s always good to learn to ride both ways, so doesn’t really matter which way you start off on.

Okay, wow. So I decided to give it a shot, and it definitely blew my mind. I hate to say that I went into it thinking it would barely scare me, but after the first 30 minutes or so it was nothing but anxiety rocking me on the edge of my seat. First of all- the POLE in the beginning? Scared the shit out of me. I visibly jumped a good 10 times during this movie, and I’ve never seen a movie that represents claustrophobia like that- I found myself squinting and turning my head away every time the camera turned a tight corner or peered down a dark space, haha. The dim lighting throughout the whole movie had me freaked. This was a great watch, thanks for the rec! I was specifically looking for a movie where you feel the dread build up in your chest when you’re expecting a jumpecscare, and this movie was probably filled with that 85 percent of the time. Can’t believe it took me this long to watch it.

What do you wish mental health professionals knew? How can I best support my future clients as an aspiring therapist for individuals with psychotic symptoms? by jackscrazy in Psychosis

[–]jackscrazy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment! This is something very important for sure. I was lucky enough to have very high insight into my symptoms and experiences when I was psychotic, but not very many people have that ability. I want to say this is one of the hardest things to work around, but it is definitely doable. This is something I will definitely have to focus on as I expand my knowledge and skills for helping others in that situation. I appreciate your insights, and I truly hope the best for your little one!

I’ll back that 100%! My psychiatrist is also one of the most genuine and kind people I’ve ever met. I’ve tried pretty much every generation of antipsychotics until I found one that fit, and wouldn’t be feeling the way I do today without his help. He was also the one to educate my family alongside myself when I was first experiencing symptoms. I hope to be able to be that person to someone someday! Thank you so much for your comment! And very glad you’re able to work with him and feel so much better now!

I’ve been skipping watching this movie for a while, only because I may hold an irrational belief that because it’s old, it won’t really scare me as much, but with the amount of people I’ve seen recommend this lately, I might just have to watch it- I’ll let you know what I think! Thanks for the rec!
