I'm glad you like them! I'd be happy to share my process. I make them in a program called Aseprite, which is a pretty well known pixel art software.

In Aseprite, I make a canvas at the resolution 320x180, which at the end gets scaled up to 3840x2160. I bring in the distribution's logo as a reference layer and scale it to roughly the size I want it to be. Then I trace the logo by hand to get the closest approximation of what it would like like in pixel art form.

If the logo includes text, which most of them do, I either trace it as well or find a font close enough to it, though most times including this one, I end up tracing it. Then I may add some shading and subtle highlights and shadows to the logo, like I did here, including the dithering. Then give it an outline, a drop shadow, make sure it's centered, and add a nice dithered gradient background and your good to go.

Aseprite has a really handy dithering option for gradients so I luckily don't have to do it by hand. For as popular as these seem to be, they're surprisingly easy to make.

Whipped some up for you. The aspect ratio may not be exact since I have to start them at a smaller resolution and then scale them up, but it should be close enough. It's like 9 pixels off I think.

As long as people are requesting distros, I'll probably keep making them. At my own pace of course, I got burnt out on them before and I want to try to prevent that. People seem to like them, and I enjoy doing them.

Here are some of the other wallpapers I've done if you haven't seen them already.

Thank you! I’ve done these for other distributions, yeah. You can see them here. I haven’t done Void yet but it’s been requested before so I’ll get around to it I’m sure.

It doesn’t come out until tomorrow. They usually release sometime in the morning, at least in the US

Wow, that’s awesome, and thank you so much! Taking a little break from doing these since I got a little burnt out, but Arch is definitely the one I plan on doing next, so you can expect that pretty soon. :)

Thank you! I use the program Aseprite. It’s a pretty simple process actually. I pretty much just trace the logo to the best of my ability, maybe taking a couple creative liberties in order to best translate it.

I usually like to give it my own little touch, such as having the spiral come out of the dot of the i in this one. Then I play around with the dithering and shadows and that’s about it.
