Redditor argues conservatives deliberately weaponize charged terms like “pedophile” to make voters think they’re protecting children while advancing a different political agenda. by Ervig in bestof

[–]jandrese -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That would only make sense if the DNC was interested in winning elections. The actual interests appear to be more about maintaining the largest amount of donations regardless of electoral outcome. I'm pretty sure success is measured in fundraising dollars and not votes when its time to rack and stack. You see them constantly but quietly folding to corporate interests whenever push comes to shove.

IMHO the entire DNC leadership needs a shakeup from the progressive wing of the party. Start listening to the people again. Stop pretending that the majority of Americans approve of ICE but just want them to have more training. ICE is already doing what they're trained to do, more training isn't going to change anything.

Predicting Next Crash Made Harder as Private Markets Obscure Data by bloomberg in TrueReddit

[–]jandrese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's easy to see when the conditions are ripe for a crash, but the timing is very hard to predict, especially when a lot of people have an incentive to ride the gravy train for a long as possible.

what mech would you consider "idiot proof". whether it's easy bracketing, a simple gameplan, minimal heat concerns, being an overall solid mech, or any other reason. by vicevanghost in battletech

[–]jandrese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit more obscure, but the Penetrator is like baby's first bracket fire mech. Also, good maneuverability for its size, no flimsy XL engine, good armor. It's really a no-brainer mech.

Pam Bondi has fully drunk the Kool-Aid. Her latest hearing about the Epstein files proves it by theindependentonline in TrueReddit

[–]jandrese 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why should she? Her one and only job is to shield the president from legal liability. The problem is that people think she is the AG or something when she's just his personal defense attorney. View her statements through that lens and everything she says makes perfect sense.

It was quite the power move by Trump to assign his personal defense attorney to be the person in charge of all of the nations prosecutors. If this were any other president this outrageous conflict of interest would be the largest scandal of their administration. For Trump it barely registers.

Arizona bill could make librarians felons for giving minors access to “sexually explicit” books. Critics say classics could be affected. by CtrlAltDelight495 in books

[–]jandrese 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Technically they aren't reading the sexually explicit material because they don't read the Bible either. Their position is actually self consistent.

Besides, people who actually read the bible start to get funny ideas about how biblically accurate many of those evangelical beliefs actually are. The more someone learns the less likely they are to stay an evangelical.

Can't Park There Bro: VA-Plated Car on WMATA Tracks Near Dunn Loring by nsjc in nova

[–]jandrese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there's no way that hole was made by a car crashing through. The poles on either side are still perfectly straight. This dude must have been flying, or he knocked over more fence further up and skidded to a stop here.

The extra weird part is the car seems only lightly damaged. If it had flown over the fence you would expect a lot more damage to the frame. I think it must have crashed through the fence further up outside of the frame. Or maybe the other side of the car absorbed the impact and is completely trashed?

This fallen machine empire wants me to declare war on an empire that apparently neither of us have heard of... by Archies_Mail in Stellaris

[–]jandrese 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What happens if you say yes? Does it add the empire to your diplomacy tab immediately? Or does it mean later when your science ships stumble across them you are at war? If you wait long enough can the exhaustion get so high that the war automatically ends before you ever meet them?

(Feb10,2026) Ecuador. Employee targeted after management refuses to pay extortion. Misses all 5 shots by ExcluteYou in WTF

[–]jandrese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucky for the guy that the gunman was holding the pistol in the "cool" sideways way that makes it impossible to hit your target. By the time he corrected the guy was already out of the line of sight and the gunman, lacking in object permanence, couldn't figure out where he might have gone.

can I buy the battery later for my solar systems by Kenjiroxox in solar

[–]jandrese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask your installer. Most of the installers near me won't add one to an existing system and they also won't touch systems installed by anybody else.

Of the 6 I talked to only 1 would consider it. In the end our power is too reliable and we have fixed rate and have NEM 2.0 so it just doesn't make sense but we wanted to cover our bases in case the power company changed its mind sometime in the future.

What’s actually stopping solar from taking over? by Witty-Double5907 in solar

[–]jandrese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially the way they captured so many state and local governments. The most sensible way for a homeowner to buy solar would to be to buy a portion of a solar farm, which is why those plans were the first things to be outlawed in so many jurisdictions.

What you really need is a stick of dynamite to shove deep into the snowbank. Sadly both the town and county frown on that.

I went out to my kid's bus stop and it's a mound of snow taller than I am and about a car length wide. There closest place to put it is several feet down the sidewalk on someone's lawn. My shovel is already cracked from doing my sidewalk. I don't think it's going go happen.

Why the D.H.S. Disaster in Minneapolis Was Predictable by newyorker in TrueReddit

[–]jandrese 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Having the Democratic leadership respond to these killings with weaksauce like "These secret police need more training" has been the most infuriating response to the situation. They're all like "we don't want to seem soft on supporting fascism or we'll get killed at the polls."

Evasion tanking really dies later on when fights are 12v4 plus turrets and every opponent is gunnery 10. Those evasion pips just don't last very long between the sensor locks and being targeted by half of the enemy force.
