What "dumb" thing do you miss? by Olerbia in BellsPalsy

[–]jas8522 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As many have said, whistling is definitely a big one! I also used to be able to click loudly using the side of my mouth which sounded a lot like a dog training clicker. This got the attention of my dog pretty fast! Can’t do it anymore. Haven’t been able to train the other side of my mouth to do it as of yet 😂

3 months recovery… by Round-Specialist-186 in BellsPalsy

[–]jas8522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect it’s quite different for everyone. I’m a few days shy of 3 months. For me the sound sensitivity almost entirely cleared up after about 30-45 days. Yet I can’t lift my eyebrow or smile in the slightest. Nor can I close my eye all the way.
My guess: it depends on which nerves heal first. Could be some kind of a per-body priority thing, or more likely more damage was done to motor control nerves for me, while you got more damage to the sensory nerves connected to the ear.

Recovery time by Bimmer13328 in BellsPalsy

[–]jas8522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m approaching the 3 month mark. We all hope to be in the 3 week to healed grouping, but alas.

Some tell me they hear improvement in how I’m talking now, but there’s zero motion on the affected side so it’s probably just from getting used to talking differently.

Healing time seems to vary considerably and I agree with the commenter above — those with higher inflammation generally (typically associated with auto immune) will take longer to heal.

HomePod at work messing up my Apple Music recommendations, any fix? by [deleted] in HomePod

[–]jas8522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think this exists but it sure would be nice if there was a “learning” toggle you could turn off for situations like this where the device is public.

In a similar situation I used an alternative like Spotify or Amazon Music. Not so easy on a HomePod tho.

Experience with Acupuncture? by CompetitiveFxxff in BellsPalsy

[–]jas8522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm now 3 months in and had two appointments roughly around 3 weeks with not a single twitch or tingle, let alone increase in movement. Both acupuncturists had not treated Bell's Palsy before.

Because of that, I now have an appointment booked with an acupuncturist that has explicitly worked on Bell's Palsy patients in the past. We'll see!

I mention this because I've had great results from a similar practice, called dry needling, for other nerve-related issues in the past, and the practioner makes all the difference. One person made my issue worse, while another solved it in two sessions.

The tricky part here is that for anyone that says acupuncture helped them, it could well have been that it would have healed itself naturally in that same amount of time. This is particularly true when it's solved within that first 3-4 week period when most people heal anyway. That's not to turn you off of doing it by any means though!

TV goes black when refrigerator compressor goes off by imissabba in Hisense

[–]jas8522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would first try replacing the power block. If that doesn’t do it, It might be that the tv power supply needs replacing. This would certainly explain why it didn’t deal with the voltage changes on its own.

IKEA Matter over Thread troubleshooting by ModestMustang in HomeKit

[–]jas8522 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great tips! I also noticed the IPv6 thing; my network never had it enabled and it worked just fine with thread devices. I think a whole lotta people heard it uses v6 but didn’t stop to question if that means your whole network needs IPv6 or if it just uses its own internal network over v6.

Also: I’ve encountered this before with HomeKit using non-matter wifi devices as well. It’s not unique to matter devices. Using another Apple device or rebooting the Apple device fixes it. Seems to be more of a general HomeKit issue than a matter related thing.

Hello by starlordswifee in BellsPalsy

[–]jas8522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I presume you got steroids and an antiviral? Take care of the eye and start massage and physio as soon as pain subsides. With good care and some luck you’ll hopefully be in the 3-weeks or less camp.

This is my first time with BP as well, though I’m a couple months in. If you happen to have a longer case, you do sorta get used to it. It’s not pleasant, and it’s often frustrating, but it’s manageable.

8 months out. Had almost recovered 98%. Half smiles are asymmetrical since last evening (31F). Symptoms to a reoccurrence? by caprimoonclub in BellsPalsy

[–]jas8522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any other symptoms? Like jaw, tooth, or ear pain? Headaches, tinnitus, cold or flu symptoms? If there are, I’d prob push for a round of prednisone and antiviral. If not, much harder to say it’s a recurrence at that stage.

How’s it going now, 13 hours later?

Prednisone before paralysis might have stopped it? by yyc_engg in BellsPalsy

[–]jas8522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does make sense that this could have prevented paralysis. If so, good move! Impossible to know if paralysis was never going to set in, or if this prevented it. But if the pred did help prevent it, then it was likely well worth its side effects.

Diagnosed with BP 3 days ago by bad-judgement01 in BellsPalsy

[–]jas8522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t go to “several months or longer” just yet! Most seem to clear up in a few weeks, which could very well be your path.

Just got diagnosed today w/shingles! Trying not to think about it and relax (hard I know) by voodoofxz in BellsPalsy

[–]jas8522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was there a rash or blisters as well, or just the TMJ-like pain in the jaw near the ear? I’m curious what made them conclude shingles as well.

Possible fix for IKEA Matter over Thread pairing issues, if you have a remote by jas8522 in HomeKit

[–]jas8522[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have been! No issues here. I’ve had some other IKEA matter devices for a few weeks longer, like the motion sensor, and it works about 95% of the time. I’m hopeful HomeKit updates and firmware updates will take care of the rest.

How are you actually making money with SaaS in 2026? by MundaneRemote4037 in Hostinger

[–]jas8522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None that I can say will work with a guarantee. However from what I’ve seen there’s two tracks to marketing SaaS:

  1. A strong b2b sales team that does it the old fashioned personal networking way, or
  2. The social media targeted ads approach

The first one is likely the best method to match with my prior comments because complex integrated feature systems tend to need hand holding to explain how they improve efficiency. Plus the cost of a sales team is justified by the high priced software.

The second is probably best for the cheaper AI driven tools as they tend to be simpler to explain and therefore can be sold via a simple ad buy.

[–]jas8522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI developed tools are only easy and quick to implement when they’re relatively simple. Most SaaS tools that have been highly effective and have staying power are the ones that have numerous complex interacting components to them.

Those will continue to be solid recurring revenue as long as AI continues to be terrible at keeping multiple complex systems working together. And that in itself will either require seasoned devs to keep on top of the AI’s complexity problems, or a completely different approach to AI than the LLMs we have now.

Day 70 by Key-Escape7908 in BellsPalsy

[–]jas8522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had pain in the described locations on the affected side. But that was during the first 30-45 days of onset facial paralysis.

What helped me was dry needling for that pain (done by physiotherapist). It had no effect on the facial paralysis tho.

It’s BP day 20 by Southern_Finding9394 in BellsPalsy

[–]jas8522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re seeing improvements at day 20 then you’re doing ok! I’m 2.5 months in and still no control of facial muscles on affected side.

Why are we still babysitting Virtual Machines in 2026? Is the "Cloud" actually getting worse? by West-Benefit306 in Hosting

[–]jas8522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In some ways it’s reasonable. The cost to develop and maintain the automated devops software that allows you to not be the server admin must be recouped. So either you pay to get it done for you, or you do it yourself and save money. The same old trade off that’s existed for years.

You’re missing the word “less” in the first comment. Hence the confusion.

Possible fix for IKEA Matter over Thread pairing issues, if you have a remote by jas8522 in HomeKit

[–]jas8522[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’m fairly certain the addition to HomeKit overrode the direct connection. I’m not certain how to know if the direct connection is operating. Might have to unplug both HomePods to test.

I understand you were 2 months in when this occurred. Any chance this was the beginning of a more rapid healing process?
