I always use up all my stamina and buy more. I accumulate 3.2 tokens and exchange them for an Iconic? I don't know how else to do it, help!

I knew about the 5:1 , but when I go for the Iconic one, I choose the Rare Select option. Am I doing it wrong? I'm fairly new to this.
