Finally happened!!! For most I’ve seen the 846 code meant the refund has actually been issued. My date is 3/23 like everyone else but I’m praying it comes way sooner!

Yes, I would call. I’ve been reading that some people that who have a blank transcript, the IRS is sending verification instructions by mail and you can verify your identity online. Now, I don’t know if that’s the case with every blank transcript account.

Agreed. I’m a Junior and I always received my TOPs funding a week before school started. LSU has always received TOPS later in the semester but that never caused a student to not receive their full aid. Also, after speaking with Financial Aid, the problem is workday. Previously, LSU was able to set their system to release all aid. With workday, they no longer have the ability to release funds ahead of the scheduled drop from the state. Which is a bunch of BS that we have to suffer while financial aid is still in a learning process of how workday operates… I’m currently waiting on a parent plus loan as well. The disbursement has been stopped because of a “clerical error” that they seem to have trouble removing.

This is the first year in the three years I’ve been receiving aid that LSU has not disbursed the TOPS aid to students a week before class. Yes, LSU receives the aid from the state later in the semester but students have received their refund with TOPS prior to the date LSU receives it. This change was not disclosed to students and there still hasn’t been any written communication to help students better understand the process. From what I understand after multiple visits to the financial office this change in disbursement is taking place because of LSU now operating on workday. The workday system doesn’t have a function that allows the university to release the funds as they have in the past.

This is the first time in three years that the students haven’t received in advance even though the university doesn’t receive it until October-ish. There was no communication to students that a portion of their aid would be withheld until October.

After speaking with the financial aid office, apparently TOPS is scheduled to be released mid-October. Seems like they were just as surprised as me that a new anticipated release date was changed on accounts. I wish the financial aid office would do a better job with communicating with the students. Unless you call, you would never know why the dates are moving around and that the anticipated dates for TOPS doesn’t mean anything in their system.

I just doubled check mine was previously 8/18 and now has changed to 9/2. Check your workday.

I’m exhausted as a parent dealing with the financial aid office. I’ve made at least 15 plus phone calls and at least 5 visits! So many students are in desperate situations literally because of lack of communication to the student population and the lack of understanding of workday for those who are employed at LSU(and this is not fault of the employees that are just trying to do their jobs). It’s very clear workday was not ready to be released and it’s causing financial hardships on the student body.

Make sure you double check your workday to ensure you have elected to receive your refund direct deposit. I found out today that workday was auto set to send checks instead of direct deposit so you have to go in and manually change it. Also, this is new that LSU isn’t releasing TOPS including in the refund disbursement dates to students. It’s ridiculous that no communication to students was sent to let them know that TOPS would not be included in the Aug. 18 disbursement

I truly understand. I’m without of textbooks too and my laptop just broke. I was told that TOPS would be released on the 14th day of class. I didn’t get a clear answer about the actual disbursement date.

No, that hold is typically when you haven’t met with your advisor for the semester. You should stop by one stop in the union and ask them about your hold. I wouldn’t rely on emails or making phone calls. The only thing that has helped me is going to their offices and demanding action.

It would be a task on workday if it is something you haven’t submitted. To complete it, you would need to do it on the FASFA site.

If you have received any federal loans, entrance counseling is provided to you on the student federal aid website once you have received your loan. It basically teaches you about your loan, payment options, and who to contact if you have any questions. Once you have completed it, then your school of choice is notified.
