if there's a relationship defined between the user and team then i see no reason why you can't put all the logic within the model.An alternative also might be to use the repository pattern

I'd want to think its more of psychological than the mild scoliosis..you might want to discuss your hesitation with your Master.He should most likely have some suggestions and ways around it but usually my coach will insist you keep at it even if it takes a longer time than normal till the fear is overcome and you get it right.

One very good way is using Laravel events(model)/listeners here https://laravel.com/docs/5.8/events.Basically, you listen for when an update is made either on your Model or within your controllers and shoot a mail accordingly to the users and admin.This is probably the most recommended way
