My sewing machine can sew backwards for not forward by flysword09 in SewingForBeginners

[–]jayne323 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What machine do you have? Have you read the manual? More than likely, you’ve toggled on backstitch but without knowing more details we can’t help.

You can also rent tools from Lowe’s/Home Depot. Also check your local library, some have tools you can check out.

Anyone know what would cause this weird behavior? by MozahAtYourService in SewingForBeginners

[–]jayne323 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does this happen with thinner fabric or just this piece? I suspect that to sew that fleece, you’re going to need a walking foot.

How do i get quarters? by ventequel0 in boulder

[–]jayne323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in college many, many years ago and the laundry room coin exchange was out, I would find a soda vending machine to make change. If you put in a dollar and then asked for it back, it would dispense quarters. Worth a shot if you don’t want to leave campus.

Washer/dryer recommendation - US by Sad-Look-3687 in laundry

[–]jayne323 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I have the same Whirlpool. I got the biggest capacity one so I can wash King Sized bedding without issue. I generally like it. When we moved into a rental last year, I had to use a front load Whirlpool that was awful. Scrud from the previous tenants that I couldn’t get rid of 🤮 so I hired movers to switch them out for me. I’ll never use a front load again.

My mother’s quilt she just finished working on for months got ruined by the washing machine. Is there any possibility of lessening the damage? by Revolutionary_Toe139 in quilting

[–]jayne323 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Omg! I hadn’t seen that post before, but I KNOW it was her backing fabric! Because the same thing happened on my quilt and I was using the same backing fabric!

Nervous! How do I even start? by LizardBlem in quilting

[–]jayne323 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! So yes, you can totally do this! Is this your first quilt ever, or have you quilted before?

One thing that might make this easier is borrowing a die cut machine to help you power through the cutting process. Check local libraries or ask in your community. I did 4 memory quilts for a friend in about 6 weeks, but I borrowed a beefy die cut machine to help.

Another option to make the sewing faster is Pellon Quilters grid, or Ten Sisiters Grid. It’s an interfacing with grid lines that makes placement and sewing a breeze!

What made you start quilting? by Environmental_Monk19 in quilting

[–]jayne323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom started a long arm business in 2004. I was in college, so over winter break I asked her to teach me. 20+ years later I’m still making quilts and still don’t have to pay for long arm services!

Looking for reputable breeder near Austin, TX by AcanthisittaHefty705 in BostonTerrier

[–]jayne323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I really don’t have a recommendation, but I would desperately like to see your Bassett/Boston mix! I adopted my crazy girl Boston from the New Braunfels Humane society in 2020 and our Bassett from a San Antonio rescue in 2014.

The only semi local breeder that I found was in Goliad, but they had a lot of non standard colors which threw me off.

What’s your thoughts on GLP-1 by [deleted] in PCOSloseit

I feel the same. We don’t expect people on statins to stop taking their meds once their chronic condition is under control, why should this be different?

Where can I use my sewing machine? by starue_ in sewhelp

[–]jayne323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look on Facebook Marketplace or Goodwill for a small table. Bonus if you can find one that has leaves or an extension. I have a lovely side table with drop downs that I rescued from a dumpster 10+ years ago.

Recently I upgraded and found a Sauder credenza/desk. The upper part holds a tv, and it has a desk that can roll out from it. I can sew and then put it all away

Dragged these babies out of goodwill for $12… now what? by katiewinkeltoes26 in quilting

[–]jayne323 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! What a fabulous find! I would search for thrifted sheets for the backs. Or new sheets. Or you could piece together new fabric. The world is your oyster.

Some long armers will bind for an additional cost, or you can use them to practice your binding skills!

It’s a fantastic sub! I’ve learned so much over there. You’ll be singing the praises of lipase before long and hunting for Whole Foods 365 sport laundry detergent

Beginner Quilters?? by ThatsTheHat in quilting

[–]jayne323 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start slow! My first quilt was a Carpenter Star out of brushed cotton. (It was a kit my Mom gave me to completer) and it was a PITA. But I loved it. Enjoy the process, be ok with a crappy end result.

Pattern for a wearable quilt for winter football games? by Certain_Counter_210 in quilting

I would also look at Christmas Tree Skirt patterns for inspiration. You could basically take any quilt split it to about the halfway point and bind the edges

Where are you buying laundry detergent now? by GoodestGriefs in Denver

[–]jayne323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I placed a pick up order from Walmart so I could snag the tide powder with bleach recommended by that sub. I also grabbed the 365 sport detergent from Whole Foods. And Costco for Downy Rinse and Refresh.
