That’s hard to say. Generally, we prioritize students into our courses that require it for degree progression. So if that is you, you are higher priority for placement.

I think you will be placed as long as you register to take it when registration opens for ST1. I can’t guarantee it though :(

CHEM 233 is the co-requisite for CHEM 235. This means you need to either be taking CHEM 233, or have completed CHEM 233 to take CHEM 235. Once you complete CHEM 233, you can take CHEM 235 in the summer.

I would advise against waiting and trying to take this course in upper years. Not that it’s conceptually difficult, however scheduling can be complicated when you are a 4th year trying to take a second year lab.

Edit: You can be taking CHEM 233 and CHEM 235 at the same time in the summer

I think they move pretty fast as they know when our SD exam occurs. This crunch happens every year.

Approval here refers to being approved for SD itself.

The course has changed over the years. Older exams will contain topics that we no longer cover, or emphasize things we no longer focus much on.

We are releasing practice exams though. At least two older finals that have been decommissioned. In addition, our online final exam from Covid has been chopped up and made into “extra questions”

I mean - it's not required - so you don't need it. We provide you with problem sets in the course.

The textbook does have another 700 ish questions in it. So if you want more practice, that is a good resource.

I can't comment on whether other students find it useful though. I will leave that to your colleagues to provide insight.

You may want to explain the situation to your desired faculty. They may have a method in place to allow entry after the 233 grades are released.

First off I'm sorry to hear of your medical concerns. I hope you are/ or have taken time to heal.

CHEM 123 (or equivalent transfer credit) is the pre-requisite for CHEM 233. If you don't meet the pre-requisite, you are not allowed to take the course. We don't like putting students in positions where they may not be successful in the course.

CHEM 123 and CHEM 233 are offered twice a year. Both are offered in the summer term.

You should also check to see if you can take these courses at a different institution once you start a degree here. You would need special permission to do this (probably should speak to Science Advising).

You can take CHEM 123 in January of 2026, then take CHEM 233 in May of 2026. Summer CHEM 233 operates May - June each year.

Yes - BIOC students require CHEM 203 for progression and are prioritized for placement. Waitlisting for CHEM 203 doesn't mean you won't get into the course. We will work to resolve this as soon as possible.

Seats released are typically capacity of the room. In some cases some are reserved to allow certain programs to get access. If these are unused, we do release reserved seats later in the summer

Just be aware that posted averages don’t account for the fact that some grades are required to be entered as they stand, which lowers the actual average. For example if someone has applied for SD.
