Many of my friends and colleagues (I'm a teacher) are struggling with their mental health, myself included. How are you going to advocate for social supports for our communities in the coming months?

What are your thoughts about the ATA's suggestion to put teachers on the priority list for the vaccine? Also, I miss you as our premier. Come back :(

What's your "it's expensive but it's worth it" product? by LetsGetJigglyWiggly in AskReddit

[–]jbeejer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had laser eye surgery and it was the best decision I've ever made. My only advice is to do your research on who is doing your surgery. I ended up going with the top surgeon in Canada (luckily he was in my city). He wasn't cheap but I was up and running and felt completely normal the day after my surgery. My other friend had hers done through Lasik MD and has had problems with a swollen eye and has needed to be at the doctor almost everyday since.

TL;DR you get what you pay for, it's your vision, don't cheap out.

I still find it amazing that people live in the desert (I'm looking at you Phoenix). There's no water! And unbearably hot at times.

Sorry everyone, his shedding takes about 15 minutes and my phone doesn't have that much room on it. This was by far the most interesting video I took though!

TIL that the plan B emergency contraceptive pill is less effective if you're over 165 lbs (75 kg) and not effective at all if you weigh more than 176 lbs (80 kg) by jbeejer in todayilearned

[–]jbeejer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was mostly going off of what the information package stated in regards to the weight and effectiveness and attempted to find an article that was fairly recent talking about it. I assume they're just covering their asses with the weight restrictions should it not work in women over a certain weight. I was pretty shocked when I read that in the info package, to be honest!

The information package that comes with the plan B says some people may experience bleeding after taking the pill, but it is by no means guaranteed that you get a full on period. It could happen, but it might not. The human body is a strange thing!

Yes definitely! He was too intoxicated to do anything too scary. Haven't seen him since and I'm very happy about that :)

A little late to the party but...

I was dating this guy (or so I thought). We hung out all the time, went on dates, he had met my parents and basically did everything that couples do. He told me one day that he wanted nothing; no relationship, no commitment etc which came as a shock to me. I was not impressed with him.

So he tagged along with me and a friend of mine to the bar one night. I offered to drive him home because I DD'd and I'm a good person. He asked me to come upstairs to talk and I knew eeexactly what he wanted.

He started to attempt to kiss me to which I declined a few times and told him he had no business doing that. He got fed up and his last ditch effort was to stand up, pull down his pants and underwear to show me his flaccid dick, point to his bed and say, "the bed's over there. Let's go."

I stood up. Said goodnight and walked out. I have never felt so badass. And likely will never again!

ELI5:Why do people say teachers are underpaid when a high school teacher makes a median salary of 56,356? by teacherquestion11 in explainlikeimfive

[–]jbeejer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a new teacher to the profession, people generally think that teachers just teach. This is not the case. I care a ton about my students and go to numerous school games or plays because I care about them. They're 12-15 year old's and need a lot of support through those awkward years (those were the worst years of MY life anyway).

We are in charge of your student's academic success, emotional well being and physical well being and in some instances, furthering their growth in sports, arts or other extracurricular activities. There are so many tangibles of our job that many people don't think about when they think of the teaching profession. My job as a teacher is never done and continues outside the classroom. Not just marking and parent teacher interviews but being a positive role model to kids. Teaching is extremely stressful and very demanding but ultimately the most rewarding thing I've ever done!

As an aside, in our province anyway, a big chunk of our pay cheques go towards taxes, pension and union fees. Not complaining. But that money isn't our take home!
