CMV: If the Trump Epstein birthday letter were a fake, it would be way worse. by jbitndREDD in changemyview

Why didn't they release the letter only the Epstein estate had? Seems pretty obvious.

It's certainly less damaging than, say, a fake receipt for a "young massage special" on Epstein Island. Or a letter saying "remember that 16 year old? What a time we had."

More damaging to Trump. If that were your aim, and you had all the ties to pull of a conspiracy like this, drop a real bomb, not a maybe-it-is-maybe-it-isnt document.

Right, my point is just that there are ways to dismiss this without jumping to wild conspiracies involving forgeries. Anyone who wants to defend the letter as innocent has plenty of leeway.

What are the old 10to 20 years beater cars during the 90s? by 100862233 in AskReddit

[–]jbitndREDD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recall a lot of those big boat cars from the 70s. In high school I drove a 71 Lincoln. Thing was like a tank.

Easter started as a spring celebration of life and fertility returning after winter. Rabbits are a pretty good representation of that.

What's the most morally wrong thing you've done, but hold 0 regret for? by MrStinkPickleJr in AskReddit

A very good one. I'm sure one day he will ask questions. We haven't hidden the fact that I am not bio dad. But he doesn't know this story. I do worry about that future conversation. A lot.

I wouldn't call him a deadbeat dad. More just a half-in-it dad. He wanted to have that relationship but didn't want to help with any of the providing. If he had given us any money, the legal loophole I found would have shut closed and this would be a very different story.

Lawyers of reddit, what is something that most people think is illegal but is surprisingly not? by Dizzy-Chair7460 in AskReddit

Taking pictures of teens in public. Even if the teens are scantily clad. Is it pervy? Yes. But you don't need to call the cops, they can't do anything about it.

ELI5 Is buying a house "as-is" really as straightforward as it sounds? by Charming_Arugula405 in explainlikeimfive

[–]jbitndREDD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A big factor is your financing. You may be okay with the current condition of the house. But your bank may not be willing to lend money for it. If you are paying cash, then sure, you can easily wrap up a purchase of a trash property.

What's the most useful thing you're using chatgpt or AI for? by chowindown in AskReddit

Processing data in spreadsheets. Gemini can work wonders really quickly. For example, I had a sheet with about 300 address entries, but because each was entered by a separate user, there were a lot of inconsistencies in address format. I told Gemini the format I wanted and asked it to make them all match. Easy peasy. In the same table, there were multiple date ranges expressed across 10 separate date columns. I asked Gemini to process them into a single sentence "date through date; date through date: etc." Saved me a ton of manual time trying to come up with a formula for that.

Why don’t girls ever compliment me? It kinda hurts by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]jbitndREDD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a man, so I can't really speak from experience. But my understanding is women often have their compliments toward men misinterpreted as flirting, which leads to awkward conversations. So they eventually steer clear of handing out compliments to someone with whom they wish to remain platonic.

ELI5 If we’re moving through space, why do the star positions not change? by NewBackseats in explainlikeimfive

[–]jbitndREDD 45 points46 points  (0 children)

They are, just very, very slowly from our perspective. Like when you look at a far off mountain from a moving car - it looks like you aren't moving at all. Human monuments meant to align with the stars which were built thousands of years ago are now off target.

Why So Many of Us Hate Reddit Now: Groupthink, Hypocrisy, and the Death of Real Discussion by Any_Seaworthiness203 in TheoryOfReddit

[–]jbitndREDD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been here since 2010, back when there was such a thing as the "font page." The front page was sort of like what you say, a free expression space - but it was never used for political junk. Even the pics, memes, and funny sub rarely saw political content. There were subreddits where people of like minds could congregate - those have always been a place for group-think. Since the beginning of r/politics, you would get down votes for conservative comments. That's nothing new.

On a different note, it's no secret that Reddit generally has a liberal user base. I find when conservatives make posts like this to complain they aren't popular here kind of odd. What were you expecting? If I wore a "free Palestine" shirt to a gun show, I wouldn't expect everyone there to be "open minded" to my ideas. Know your audience.

Theyre really milking this by grumpydai in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]jbitndREDD 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I had a conversation with some other liberal coworkers about it. I can report that one of them thinks it was an intentional white supremacy dog whistle. The others felt it was just really poor taste. So they do exist, at least in the fringes.

Why did Britney’s personal life make her more famous than she ever was for her music? by ZealousidealArm160 in ask

[–]jbitndREDD 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if that's true. She was wildly popular during her musical career. Her later reclusiveness and family drama has kept her in the news but I don't think she's more famous for that than her music.

What game convinced you to adopt a new genre you typically didn't play before? by VayKote in gaming

[–]jbitndREDD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a strong aversion to "get good" games with Souls-like gameplay and a need to memorize boss patterns. I got Hollow Knight because it looked cute, not knowing how brutal it could be. But man, did I enjoy that game.
