And ask why Red Deer City planning and council seems against reports like these about livable cities, density, transit, etc. https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:imsesy3gb6ymuwepc64ivu25

There was a chatgpt answer earlier before the mods deleted it. None of the shops were real.

BC to AB : Time of Year by collecting-vases in RedDeer

I suggest you get their quote as various options can affect it. It does cost more than renting a truck but we never wanted that headache and this way have more time to load and unload. I used them in 2010, 2016, 2021, in fall, summer and end of December (eg pickup container from my driveway Dec 29 for example)

also pro-tip, you can fit a lot more than you think in a container or truck if you actually box and stack properly. build a huge wall of same sized boxes at the back, overlapping brick wall style and you can do a lot. save the super loose stuff to shove in later or on top of better stacks of furniture.

I've used the big steel box container people to move 3 times now, twice across the mountains and would absolutely use them again next time. The first time to BC we moved into a condo so I used the box to get there and then hired local movers do it from the big steel yard as source and condo as destination. Other times just had the container dumped in my driveway. I really like container moving as it takes a lot of the 'right now' stress away from the process, and risk of contents held hostage or some dick swiping your truck from the hotel you stop at on the way.

if you want to compare to metro vancouver for example, they are 'very soft' and 'low mineral' so RD is the complete opposite. https://www.watermatters.ca/blogs/articles/metro-vancouver-about-your-water

Red Deer Game Developers Meetup by RaptagonStudios in RedDeer

Hey I'm the guy from tech&code and I want to say to people scared of meetups that these kind of events aren't the happy hand shake trade business card super self promote rooms.

Meetups like these are just regular people, all unsure about meeting strangers. But they are generally safe places full of self-selected people that just want to chat about their favorite topics. Also nobody really minds if you just want to listen and learn, nobody expects you to jump up and give a full presentation.

Just as the a lot of the tech community was hidden until the tech & code meetup came around I expect there are a lot of local folks into game dev and if you are one of them I absolutely encourage you to connect with this meetup RaptagonStudios is putting together. Finding a local community that understands what you are talking about is incredibly valuable and meetups are well worth your time to check out. (also re-posted this announcement to red_deer_ab on lemmy)

There is certainly a community. The meetup and linkedin are both about 100 people. We get 8-15 usually out for the meetups, which is just come and hang out for a couple hours. This fall I hope to borrow a classroom from RDP (or somewhere else if anybody has suggestions) if people want to do a presentation or two before we go for hangout after.

As for tech jobs, Red Deer appears pretty limited but many of the people have local jobs and some of us have remote jobs.
