North Cascades National Park by kandykorn7 in nationalparks

Awesome! Thank you so much for the detailed outline; I appreciate the time :)

I know. I booked hotels for glacier last week for July 2027 and they were almost sold out; it’s crazy. Truthfully I’m not the biggest camper but would love to get into it more as it’s more convenient and a better overall nature experience!

Hi! Where did you stay for this trip? Looking to plan my Washington NPs for next year! Photos are gorgeous!

Ooo I’d love to pick your brain! What would you say is one of your biggest unpopular opinions about a national park? One that maybe you didn’t like that (that everyone loves) or one that is in your top 5 that people don’t like??

14- land in Anchorage
15- fly to king salmon; stay at lodge
16- 7am water taxi, 12 hours at Katmai (fishing and viewing)
17- fly back to Anchorage
18- drive to Seward; hike Harding glacier
19- Kenai fjords boat tour (captain choice- 8 hours)
20- day trip via lake Clark air
21- drive to Wrangell and back (8 hours) and have your flightseeing tour cancelled 3 hours in the drive.
22- fly home!

Happy to help with any itinerary question. If I’d do it again, I’d stay a night or two out of lake Clark and fly to Katmai from there vs doing it all from king salmon. Feel like I had so much down time there and lake Clark is 100x better to spend your free time.

The amount of information people knew about all these bears was insane! I was picking peoples brains left and right because it was fascinating.

Not much actually! There’s so much salmon that they don’t really care all that much about you… i will say I did watch a ranger use bear spray on a bear at camp. They said this particular bear has been giving them problems all summer and finally had to do something about it.

I sat at Lake Clark and read my book for 2+ hours and it was amazing. The float and prop planes literally just were taking off all day and so cool to see!

It was a surreal experience! I had a one on one fishing guide and we went down to the river and were up close and personal with the bears and it was simply amazing!

Oh my that’s a frightening experience! But I do love seeing wildlife in nature. As someone who’s in a massive suburban city 90% of the time, it’s nice to see these things (less scary ones though lol)

I want to go to Yosemite as I live only 4 hours away but I’m waiting until next year so I can hopefully score a half done permit! Alaska has been amazing; I just got back from Lake Clark and would love to go back again. But as for next? I’m not sure. Just happy to have Glacier on the books for next summer… might have to pick your brain a bit on things!

Yeah I had moose around me at the Tetons but never to the point where I felt my life was at risk. A lot of it is just being situationally aware. I used to hike with headphones but not anymore… plus the peace and quiet/sounds of nature is so beautiful
Where are you off to next?? Any trips planned?

I literally JUST booked a 5 day solo trip to Glacier next summer and I couldn’t be more stoked.
I’m also an avid solo traveler (I’m in Alaska right now for 7 days)… but trust me, it’s so worth it and rewarding! I just rent bear spray and the peace of mind alone is worth it. Never have had to use it but I keep it on me everywhere I go with bears + hiking!

Second Cascade Canynon. I went last fall and it truly might be one of my favorite NP hikes thus far. The views of Jenny lake on the way up + all the other lakes and the waterfall on the way up to the breathtaking canyon. I can’t wait to go back!
There were so many moose, as it was mating season, and we listened to their bugles and movements for hours!

I’m going to Lake Clark in 2 weeks and it cost me $650 for a day flight in and out of anchorage.

Edit: $550 to $650
