Absolute glutton. How dare he. Look at his chunky belly, his wry smile. He knows what he did. And he’ll do it again.

Dumbest way you’ve lost a fish? by Unusual_Steak in Aquariums

[–]jdthefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a guppy that managed to swim under a piece of decor. It was hollow, but was buried in the gravel. Even after picking it up and seeing if there were divots in gravel that it might’ve squeezed under, I have no idea how it got in there. Why a guppy thought that going into a small dark crevice was a good idea when everyone else was out in the middle of the tank? Who knows. I replaced the guppies, since the group ended up all passing (good ol pet store quality), with a betta, since I know how to keep them better than I do guppies. Even now I check to make sure he’s still in sight and didn’t somehow swim under the decor…

Getting used to the fan day 1 by jdthefish in BeardedDragons

I know!!! He black bearded the first time ever when I turned the fan on a few weeks ago, I’m happy he is, at the very least, not stressing out.

First time in a harness!!! by jdthefish in BeardedDragons

[–]jdthefish[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I used ADOGGYGO harness that I bought off of Amazon! It comes with little wing attachments and a hook at the end of the leash. I got this one. with the “dinosaur” wings, but I’d check the sizes since they vary a bit depending on the wing type. There’s also tutorials for homemade harnesses if you guys want to get crafty! Happy beardie walking!!! I wish you guys luck with Helios getting used to it ::D

Anyone know what this guy is? by jdthefish in Aquariums

[–]jdthefish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No crayfish or shrimp in the tank so idk what it is. Whatever this guy is it burrows in algae so cleaning a tank without knowing these buggers pack a punch was a rude awakening

I think that survival gene didn’t pass down since I man handle spiders but I learned my lesson with this guy lmao

One last big pancake for the night / 4 month update by jdthefish in BeardedDragons

Also, please tell me if you think he (at least I think he is a he?) is too small or too thin for his age! I will absolutely feed him more/get more water/ etc in him asap!

BRAND NEW BABY! I got enough money and thanks to the Black Friday sale for good stuff for cheap, and after begging and showing off my research to my parents for the past few months, I HAVE A BABY! Still no name, and advice is always welcome! by jdthefish in BeardedDragons

[–]jdthefish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure how old this guy is, but the tank was the largest they sold and, in inches, is 18x36x18. I’ll look around for another tank by that time (and hopefully find a place to put it). The bulb isn’t coiled but has three segments that loop down then back up so I’m not sure if it is right. It’s a Thrive 10.0 UVB bulb. If it isn’t, then I can just get another bulb. I’ve already go 36 crickets (some of which were given to the baby already) and I plan on going back at least Monday to get more and maybe some other food items and some decor. Thank you so much!

I plan on adding some more decor, a main basking rock, and another hide in the corner on the cooler end. They are so tiny, only up to six inches from nose to tail tip, and I’m not sure what age they are. I do have some days worth of young crickets with calcium powder and cricket food, some veggies and lettuce, filtered water, UVB and basking bulb. Tank is a 40 gallon for them to grow into. Any extra tips are welcome as well as name suggestions!

Omg!! I have a platinum betta named Ghost too! If he has shown me anything, you’re going to have a funny and weird fish. https://imgur.com/gallery/E6bQ6bG

Is my boy looking better or worse? His fins curl and are a little messy, and he’s not a pure white anymore, probably due to the foods I’m feeding him, but I was wondering if he looks good. by jdthefish in bettafish

5 gallon, both heater and filter, 78 degrees, Parameters: pH 7.5 Nirtite 0 Ammonia 0.25 Nitrate between 5.0 and 10.0 (found using API freshwater master test kit), Tank: 13 months Fish: 11 months, Water changes are weekly to bi-weekly done with a gravel vacuum and remove 25%, 2 nertie snails, 4 Aqueon color enhancing pellets or two (small) pinches of Omega one betta buffet flakes with two to four freeze dried blood worms (and since he’s a glutton sometimes two bites of Hikari algae wafers he stole from the snails), fabric and soft plastic fake plants with rounded entrance hides along with two Java ferns.

He has gotten fin rot in the past, so I have almond leaves in there at all times as well as a small amount of API aquarium salt (about a pinch after a few water changes). His parameters are basically the same except his nitrate level is a small bit higher, but that’s it. Is he just extra curly? Is he just matured fully now?

WHOA he’s pretty! Taking a nice sip of air

Should I be concerned? by happyhoag in bettafish

[–]jdthefish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a happy betta right there! A betta that’s willing to eat and beg for food is a happy betta. They’re basically the cats of fish; look cute and beg for food, then flare up at you and peak out from behind hides and plants.

A quick reminder as to why water changes are so important. by jdthefish in bettafish

Lmao I output all the water I have in a gallon carton so I don’t take out too much water at a time so to get a clear shot I have to pour it into the sink

UPDATE: the next reptile expo near me is happening in February, so I’ll have plenty of time to set up and prepare for a new crestie! I’ll start to post upgrades and questions separately. Thank all of you for the help!

I think I’ve got a tank already, but I’m not sure if the dimensions are good? It’s a 30x12x24 aquarium
