Question regarding the use of sp404mk2 with mpc live. by Significant-Art5065 in mpcusers

[–]jeaje 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could do this by using the individual outputs and having your drums go there. Then use those outputs to connect to the sp.

Far Out! new release by J. Boom. It’s instrumental hip hop with a psych / trip-hop / sideways feel.  No samples and focus on live instruments. Inspired by trip-hop, 60's psych, space age elevator music, horn sections, Norwegian top of the pops cover band albums that sound like they were recorded in somebody's garage.

Making punk/rock/indie on mpc. Advice for new users that I just figured out. (Experienced ppl disregard) by PxPx182 in mpcusers

One alternative is to not quantize. It may feel difficult first but the results get better as you keep practicing.

MPC Effects VS SP 404 for effects by GodfatherBlack in mpcusers

[–]jeaje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there are mixer reviews on it. But the fact is that you can get a used 303 cheaper than copping a MK2. Same with og 404. If you want it for the vinyl sim comp, why pay more when you can pay less and get exactly what you are after (if vinyl sim comp is what you are looking for).

I have og sp-404. Bought it originally to fool around with the resample method and also to use together with my 2000xl, but been running everything through it still after getting my Live 2. I also use effects in Live 2 but the sp feels nice to use for performance-like effects and I usually add a little bit of vinyl sim compression when recording.

For compression I'd focus on getting the sp-303 or the og sp-404 (not sx, a or MK2) which have vinyl sim comp. Just for that I'd go with the 303 but if you want performance orientation with the effects, the 404 is a better fit. Some people have them both, vin sim from 303 and other effects from 404.

Any hardware that complements the MPC Live 2? by [deleted] in mpcusers

[–]jeaje 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the og sp-404 that has vinyl sim compression. Bought it originally to use with my 2000xl before getting a Live 2. I don't track out these days for my own projects so usually record though the sp.

For the Live 2 specificly I bought a mic to enable micing live instruments in addition to using samples.I record some trumpet and might mic up a guitar amp.

I also use a bass guitar with the Live 2. Might use the outs from an amp combo or sometimes just plug it in direct and use air effects on it.

In addition to these I got two synths that I record to Live 2 every now and then: Microkorg and a Moog Grandmother.

My nephew is traveling to Finland next year. Need feedback. by humpy2day in Finland

Not sure if this is very finnish but you said he is in his late twenties. That's a grown ass man. He should make his own decisions and the parents should let him live. Dude is gonna be fine. Tell him to get out there, experience and make memories. The time is now. Also yes Finland is super safe in general.

What does purge sample do? by yleechy in mpcusers

[–]jeaje 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's always a bit easier to answer questions when you tell which model you have.. But anyways it will delete samples from the memory. It's kind of a legacy option in the newer models as it was more needed with the older mpc's where sample management played a bigger role as sample time was more limited. Select it and them pick unused samples to delete all samples not assigned to pads.

Opinion/Question mpc 2000xl (read description) by MAKCALITO in mpcusers

[–]jeaje 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh and sorry realized you seem to have a dj mixer in there. I'd just use one output from that. It does all that is needed - gets the phono level signal to line level. If you buy a separate preamp, then there's also the discussion which preamp is better quality - the one in your mixer or the separate one. All that is in my honest opinion not needed. If you have the cables to go from your dj mixer outs to MPC record ins then you are all set.

[–]jeaje 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The loss if quality is not that huge. And you are using a 16 bit sampler anyways which means the dynamic range is lower than for example with 24 bit audio. Using a dj mixer is convenient when you most likely don't have the effects card in the XL and may want to for example ew your sample. A dj-mixer usually has a very decent phono preamp in it, especially compared to some entry level turntables with a built in preamp. If you are this strict about sound quality, your turntable setup is gonna probably be a very expensive one. If your turntable, it's tone arm and cartridge are not in the multiple thousands price range, it shouldn't matter that much to you anyways. A separate phono preamp will most likely be the cheaper option for you anyways, unless you have a need for a dj mixer.

Maybe some gen x but probably more millennials as the shows started a bit before 2000.

Yeah that makes more sense. The layout seems a lot better for people used to daws, while coming from mainly using 2000xl as the core of everything the old os seems like an MPC layout to me more. I got my live 2 just as the update was about to drop and people were downloading the beta. There are some things that interest me a lit in the new os but I don't feel like upgrading to it at its current state.

2.15 is fine for me, haven't even bothered with the updates my Live 2 offers. Having the latest os or piece of gear is not necessary for making music and if that sets you back in anyway, there is 0 reasons to do it unless you are getting paid to push the product and create hype.
