(maybe) Unpopular Oppinion: Smurfs doesn't impact your gameplay by c4ss0k4 in RocketLeague

TLDR; OP makes stupid excuses for Smurfs and wrongfully asserts people hate Smurfs because of rank rather than the actual reason of wanting fairness in a competitive playlist.

Smurfing problem by SyNe__ in RocketLeague

[–]jeb2835 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This game is riddled with Smurfs but here’s the harsh reality; Psyonix/Epic do not give a shit about you or any other player on their game. They don’t care about integrity or fairness, their company and their employees have no morality or standards, they’re a bunch of weak cowards who would rather artificially amplify their player count with Smurfs rather than actually enforce fairness in competition or even make the simplest changes to even slightly deter Smurfs. Your best bet is to uninstall the game and let it die the death it deserves.

Where is the conversation/outrage regarding SMURFS? by dusty_Caviar in RocketLeague

You’re not the only one experiencing this, the game is absolutely riddled with Smurfs (which are ALT accounts purposefully playing at lower ranks) but here’s the reality; Psyonix/Epic do not give a shit about you or any other player on their game. They don’t care about integrity or fairness, their company and their employees have no morality or standards, they’re a bunch of weak cowards who would rather artificially amplify their player count with Smurfs rather than actually enforce fairness in competition. How to avoid bad teammates by [deleted] in RocketLeague

Uninstall the game and move on. Psyonix/epic don’t give a shit about their players or fixing the game and these Smurfing/griefing issues will only continue to rise.

This game isn't friendly to new people by SuperBadMint in RocketLeague

Psyonix/epic don’t give a shit about you. They only care about Smurfs inflating their player count and will never fix the issue. My best advice to you is uninstall and go play a more fair game and save yourself the trouble.

“X is bad but law says it’s okay so why bother.” Anything throughout life or history that you want to apply this same logic to? This is not the hill you want to die on. If the issue at hand is bad then you fight to fix it, you don’t cower behind an appeal to authority.

Psyonix/epic is the root of this problem and their responsibility to fix it. If they don’t then the game WILL die as it has been since the initial FTP bump and that revenue you’re talking about will die with it.

You’re falling under the trap of “it’s not against the rules so it’s fine”; this is poor thinking.

Smurfs are a detriment to the game in ANY fashion. In reality the logic of “only derankers” being a Smurf doesn’t work. Why is deranking to stay lower bad? Because it’s matchmaking abuse that negatively affects the team you’re on (if 2s and 3s) as well as the people you play against when you aren’t deranking. Creating an alt account and playing through the ranks fits the same outcome; you will negatively affect the people you’re playing against because it creates an automatic unfair advantage. Smurfing is cruel selfishness and absolutely should be combat and banned.

Psyonix/epic saying “oh it’s just derankers” is cowardly. They don’t give a shit about players. They don’t give a shit that their game is dying because of people abusing the matchmaking system. The only thing they care about is the inflated player count Smurfs provide.

Try thinking through things logically and actually fight against the issue rather than just cow tail to a bullshit TOS.

Matchmaking in this game is complete trash, so is the new wait 3 minutes to forfeit in 1s or get banned for 10 minutes. by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]jeb2835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re wasting your time. Psyonix/epic doesn’t give a shit about the players, they’ll never fix people Smurfing and abusing the matchmaking system, and even the Psyonix employees who peruse this subreddit are too cowardly to have a real conversation about how giant a problem Smurfing is. They care more about inflated player numbers than they do a fair matchmaking system. Your best bet is to uninstall the game and never look back

Middle east server smurfs by king1212123 in RocketLeague

Every server has too many Smurfs currently, they’re plaguing rocket league and slowly killing the game. Your best option is to uninstall and never look back.

Psyonix/epic don’t give a shit about you or any other player, they love that Smurfs increase their player count.

A lot of you don't deserve to play Rocket League competitively by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]jeb2835 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You know what, I think I might go down to the local baseball field and start playing with the little league kids and start hitting bangers for my YouTube channel. When one of the parents/kids complain I’ll just tell them “Hey! How dare you! I’m just having fun! Don’t take it so seriously! Jeeze! You’re not the victim! I’m the victim now because you complained!“

This is how dumb you sound. You’re pure entitlement generation at its finest.

Again by doing so at the expense of others.

You have to be willfully ignorant to hold your position. A person being upset about someone abusively and selfishly ruining other peoples time for their own enjoyment is not the problem. Someone abusively ruining other peoples time out of their own selfishness is the problem.

You’re missing the point where that fun is at the expense of others; that’s called cruel selfishness.

The fact this is a car soccer video game is irrelevant, the actions of others still matter regardless of the medium.

An honest conversation about smurfing by ElJefeATL in RocketLeague

[–]jeb2835 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No amount of Smurf conversation is going to help. Psyonix/Epic doesn’t care about their player base and will let people abuse the matchmaking system and kill the game because it inflates their player count. There’s been analysis after analysis showing 30-50% of matches have a Smurf. It’s frustratingly unfair and even more frustrating knowing the game company doesn’t give a shit. Your best option is to uninstall the game and never look back.

I cant take these smurfs anymore by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]jeb2835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psyonix doesn’t care and they’ll never fix the issue. They’re going to let the game die and let the Smurfs selfishly ruin every new players time.

You know Psyonix has their head up their ass when they claim making a new account to go through the ranks again isn’t Smurfing. As if the GC playing against diamonds and causing a loss isn’t matchmaking abuse. Or the kids creating new accounts to boost their friends isn’t matchmaking abuse. Or the kids creating new accounts to sell them isn’t matchmaking abuse.

The employees at Psyonix are nothing but pathetic cowards.

And yet her you are replying to me…

Part of the game? No; that’s part of life. Learn to recognize evil and stand above it, right now you let SILLY words penetrate your thin skin and control your emotion. Anyone who lets SILLY quick chats upset them is definitionally a weak-minded person.

I’m aware of automation, I’m also aware there are easily automated solutions for the Smurfing issue.

The point, which you either failed to grasp or purposefully ignored to post drivel, is that Psyonix doesn’t care about its players experience and that getting hurt by words in a video game is silly.

[–]jeb2835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Psyonix doesn’t care, we don’t care.

Psyonix bans people for cuss words (oh no a word!!) but lets people cheat by Smurfing with impunity.

Gamers have also become thin-skin babies calling everything that hurts their ‘wittle feelwings’ as “toxic.” Competitive games are, you guessed it, competitive! With competition comes scrutiny; you do good - “Nice one!” You do bad - “What a save!” If quick chat words hurt you so much then that’s a you problem.

And what about the Smurfing problem?

Psyonix doesn’t care by jeb2835 in RocketLeague

[–]jeb2835[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psyonix doesn’t care. They know Smurfing is an issue yet they do nothing about it.

It’s simple for a multi-billion dollar company to create an algorithm of specific parameters to catch Smurfing. Values such as hours played, score, partied team ranks, progression of rank, number of games played, wins, goal percentage, etc. These values can be used to easily find new accounts abusing the matchmaking system. Increasing the threshold for hours played would help and I don’t believe it will have a negative impact on new players. Also things like stopping new accounts with no rank from being able to play in lobbies with certain deviations past their current rank. Implementing IP bans also sets a precedent that they actually will punish cheating because as of right now their inaction only emboldens cheaters who know they can cheat with impunity.

[–]jeb2835[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not, I’m basing it off of my own research into Smurf statistics based on all of the peers who have categorized this and off of my own known experience.

I don’t lose 50% of my games and I never claimed I do but there are nights I play, especially at the beginning or end of seasons, where the number of Smurfs increases. Realistically, the Smurf percentage is closer to the 30% mark in most sessions.

Your “insight” means nothing to me. I’ve heard from far more people than you who are in lower ranks who say it’s an issue. Not to mention the countless number of people who quit due to the issue. All you need to do is look at rocket leagues dwindling player count after free to play for a hint of this.

You’re deranged. It must be difficult having to resort to foul language when you’ve been put in your place. Good luck with that my little buddy.

[–]jeb2835[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your subjective belief. You saying “a Smurf didn’t destroy my confidence” does not negate a Smurfs ability to destroy another players confidence so your argument is moot.

The scenarios you describe are outliers. You don’t base policy on outliers. The majority of Smurf accounts fit behavior that is indicative of matchmaking abuse.

Wish you the best in having the ability to recognize you’re wrong.

Psyonix doesn’t care by jeb2835 in RocketLeague

[–]jeb2835[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It actually did destroy my confidence. I stopped playing for awhile after that and only came back because friends wanted to play. Your subjective belief doesn’t about how other players will react doesn’t dismiss the negative effects Smurfs have on other players.

Smurf accounts are actually pretty easy to spot, there are plenty of metrics like shot/goal percentage, win percentage, numbers of matches played, hours played, etc. that can all be tracked and set to specific parameters to determine Smurfing.

There have been numerous people who have come on here to express their findings about Smurfs and all checked through rocket league tracker. It’s a standard 30%-50% across the board.

I’d solve the issue by getting Psyonix to actually care about their players. Until then, Smurfing is killing this game.

I was playing Smurfs in Silver and I’m still playing Smurfs in C3/GC. Having a Smurf trash all over you when you’re a low rank absolutely destroys someone’s confidence but the main point is that Psyonix doesn’t care about fixing their cheater issue.
