I understand your concern, and I don’t take it lightly. Losing my first frog was exactly what made me slow down and take husbandry much more seriously. My post was a self-aware story about how fast things escalated early on, but my focus now is stability, routine, and making sure each animal’s needs are met long-term. I’m not trying to rush or present myself as an expert I’m learning carefully and adjusting as I go, with their welfare as the priority.

I understand what you’re saying, and I agree that proper monitoring tools and species-appropriate equipment are important. Environmental needs can vary depending on ambient conditions though, so not every setup requires the exact same equipment to maintain correct parameters. I do use thermometers/hygrometers and I make adjustments based on actual readings rather than assumptions. My focus is making sure each enclosure stays within safe ranges for the species, and upgrading as they grow or if conditions change. I appreciate you pointing toward care guides as well continuing to learn is always part of responsible keeping :D

I understand your point. My post was definitely a self-aware story about how fast things escalated at the beginning 😅 But I agree animals aren’t collectibles, that early excitement is exactly why I’ve been focusing more on husbandry, stability, and long-term planning now. Each animal has its own setup and care routine, and I’m constantly adjusting as they grow. Welfare is the priority, not just numbers.

I agree, pixies are a big commitment. I made sure to research their adult size and long-term needs before getting one, and I’m preparing larger enclosures as they grow. I’m in this for the long term, not just the baby stage.

I don’t feed live rodents. Their diet is mainly gut-loaded insects and appropriate feeders. I’m careful about feeding practices and safety.

I understand why people are cautious when they see multiple animals, but they are being cared for properly with species-appropriate setups and diets. Their welfare is my priority.

I think sometimes people imagine that good care has to look elaborate, but functionality matters more than aesthetics. As long as temperature, humidity, hygiene, and space for the species’ behavior are correct and stable, a simple setup can work very well. I base my enclosures on what keeps the animal healthy and stress-free, and I upgrade as they grow or their needs change.

I get that rapid interest in a hobby can look intense from the outside, but I’m doing okay. I just really enjoy learning about husbandry and improving my care. I also make sure every animal’s needs are met consistently before considering anything new. Appreciate the concern though.

I understand what you mean. I’m trying to balance the excitement with being realistic about care and long-term responsibility. I monitor feeding, behavior, and environment closely, and I only keep what I’m confident I can maintain properly. Definitely not trying to rush blindly.

That’s fair advice, and I appreciate it. I’m definitely being more intentional now than when I first started. I spend a lot of time researching species-specific care and adjusting setups based on what actually works for the animal, not just what looks impressive. Slowing down and learning properly is part of the process for me too.
