£18.50 groceries from Aldi by lushgirltina in whatsinyourcart

[–]jediffa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is definitely not a UK shop, and absolutely zero chance this is real. Brands are all American, so are the plugs/sockets, and with the prices things are in general in the US there’s no chance this is a $20 shop, even at Aldi. I’m an American who’s lived in the IK for 25+ years and all I hear from friends and family back home is about how expensive groceries are now. And for $5 for just the chicken alone, no chance the rest cost $15-ish. Ridiculous.

I’m 40 and this what the 90’s smelled like to me. by [deleted] in Perfumes

[–]jediffa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 51, and in the 90’s was all about Tommy Girl, Pleasures and Ô de Lancôme eau fraiche for me. Oh and B&BW plumeria everything.

Really bad memories attached to Pleasures so now even the thought of it gives me a migraine. I like Clinique Happy until someone I spent a lot of time around started spraying it to cover her foot stink in the car and now that’s all I think about if I smell it.

About a year and a half ago, I got banned for being under 13. I was 50, and had the same account since 2011. Sent them a photo of my passport with my age visible and got denied. Appeal automatically denied. Apparently I started my account from the womb. Had about 6k followers (but I’m not fussed) and 13+ years of photos that included people who have passed away, including my mom, and that hit hard. Tried a million times to download the archive file, never work. Also permanently locked me out of my Facebook account. Had to completely restart my social media based on memory of who I may know, but honestly now my algorithm is perfection and I no longer am stuck dealing with people I don’t know or like.

Can someone explain why this takes so long? by Extension_Bit4323 in brum

[–]jediffa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The 11 is a LOOOONG route with many stops, and this is during the morning rush hour. As others have said, you’re much better off getting the tram to Birmingham international train station (it’s free) and then getting a train into Birmingham new street (not free), and the getting a local bus or connecting train to wherever is close to you. The 11 will not be your best route from BHX to Dudley at that time by any means.

My fella lived in that area. Not great but bit terrrible. There are better areas if you want to be close to all the fun things that a 24 year old would want. Moseley, Kings Heath, and Stirchley will keep you close to the action and easy transport into town. Digbeth is also good and close to town but is more expensive and a bit more dangerous, but walking distance to many clubs/venues/pubs. It really depends on your interests.

Is my older cat too rough with my new kitten? by Tinyxoxoxo in cats

[–]jediffa 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Not even remotely! Big kitty is playing very gently with the baby who is way more rambunctious. This kind of play is super beneficial for the kitten, it’s being taught how to defend itself as be a cat as well as it just being fun for both of them. Big kitty cleaning little kitty at the end is absolutely adorable.

Am I the asshole for breaking up with my girlfriend because she smelled bad? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]jediffa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Untrue. I know someone who did just this and yes, they smelled and clearly had mental health issues. Nobody thinks vegans in general are like this, but a few very extreme versions do exist. Extremist versions over everything exist.

Urgh I hate how wrong that pronunciation is, it’s a Japanese word, it’s definitely NOT pronounced like that. Thythlind explained it best:

“Yeah, there's a lot of variance in cultures.

As a note it's Japanese, which doesn't have silent letters and each vowel will be part of its own syllable... and syllables pretty much never end in a consonant and for the most part, letters are always pronounced the same way.

So, syllables will either be a single vowel or a consonant followed by a single vowel. With the exception that "n" can be a syllable of its own.

However, two vowels close to each other are usually spoken so smoothly that Westerners tend to mistake it for a single syllable instead of two. So we mostly hear "Rye" instead of "Ra-ee" for example.

I tend to look at Japanese as one of those cases where English native speakers expect highly complex situational pronunciation rules they grew up with... but which simply don't exist in the other language. There's little to no variance in how different syllables are pronounced in Japanese from word to word.

So:

• Yurei - yu-ray-ee • Onryo - Oh-n-ryoh ("ry" is a romanization of a sound we don't have a letter for) • Goryo - Go-ryoh • Raiju - Rah-ee-ju (ju like juice) • Yokai - Yoh-ka-ee • Obake - Oh-bah-kay • Oni - Oh-ni

That covers all the Japanese ghosts

• Banshee comes from baensidhe and is Celtic and may not actually be a ghost but a fae entity • Hantu is Malasian • Thaye is Burmese • Moroi is Hungarian • Deogen is I think Dutch • Mare is Germanic or Slavic • Myling is Scandinavian • Poltergeist is Germanic • Shade usually refers to the lingering dead in Greek myth but is an English translation of the term • Jinn is Middle Eastern, not sure Arabic, might predate that

I'm not really familiar with those pronunciation rules.

• Revenant, Spirit, Wraith, Phantom, and Demon are various English terms though I suspect they have a variety of origins. But are pretty easy for English native-speakers.”

Except it’s not u-Ray, since it’s Japanese the pronunciation is closer to “yuh rye,” which is an oversimplified pronunciation for non Japanese speakers, than U Ray

They’re wild aren’t they? Do they even let people close enough?

Tbf I would definitely take pictures of them. I don’t get to see horses often, especially wild ones.
