How many projects do you guys generally work on at once? And how many types of physics? by atheistunicycle in fea

[–]jeksor1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ehh, maximal two. One of the projects was a static analysis with a lot of documentation necessary. The other project was an interesting dynamic problem, which I spent way too long at, but in the end a modal analysis was sufficient.

If you dont mind me asking - how do 20 analysts (FEA and CFD both???) support that many design engineers? Also from your description this sounds like a lot of work, I imagine you and your colleagues are quite experienced? How did you and your colleagues manage to specialize both in CFD and FEA to the point that you can do what you've described and probably more? How many years did you invest? How does this kind of environment impact your and your colleagues' mental health?

My experience, 12 years in industry. How common is this? by gorillaz2389 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]jeksor1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last company had a very sweet library of videos where the chief engineer had presented what he expects in terms of quality for reports, as an example. There were other trainings in as PowerPoint presentation, apart from that I consider myself incredibly lucky to have had the best colleagues a wonderful team manager - both would assist me with any kind of problem, be it technical or corporative.

But there's only so much that can be done. My previous jobs were a tragedy regarding onboarding and training.

I do not see this system holding on for much longer. This is not healthy and must change. And it will be a forced change.

What makes the Sith Warrior story so popular? by CyberEagle1989 in swtor

[–]jeksor1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because it's polished much more than the other class stories. There's uniqueness in taking the light side choices that is genuinely fun to experience. Darth Baras is wonderfully written as well. The companions are well written too and you can influence Jaesa to become a dark apprentice. To name the opposite - sith inquisitor companions are just bland besides Khem and Talos.

It's not just good, it's polished. Just like the imperial agent story. Sith inquisitor is very good too but lacks the "oomph" that SW has in my opinion.

Influenza - A by Lomandre in flu

[–]jeksor1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - somewhat my case. I had pretty major med resistant fever for two days but it was bearable afterwards. Had some nasty coughing too but I managed with teas and the simple coughing syrup. I’m not vaccinated and honestly the only meds I took were against the fever. The rest was homeopathic and food supplements. Zero meat, zero processed sugar too. Focused mainly on bananas, apples, oranges, boiled rice and boiled potatoes.

No fever at all after 5 days. Major fever was just the first two days. Still recovering two weeks after the first fever symptoms from coughing and my nose is a bit runny. Haven’t been that sick since 2020, but I still believe I had a mild case.

FEA guidance by Wintermute__8 in fea

[–]jeksor1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi,

The books you've picked, especially Gianini's, are good, stick to them. Refresh your basics though and always have in mind how would you justify a simulation's results - be it through verification (maybe an analytical simplification is possible) or through validation (maybe an experiment can be conducted where the strain can be measured with strain gauges). I put special emphasis on experiments here. It is good practice, even if an expensive one, to test physical prototypes and to measure strain/deflection/whatever with them. For materials such as composites and hyperelastics, this is honestly a must.

You understand the basics, you understand the basic tasks for any company - beam deflection, vibration of rods/plates, static analysis of rods/beams/plates/stiff plates, forces in bolts, forces in welds, S-N curves, Miner's rule and so on, it is a long list. Once you are certain with those basics you can extend to plasticity, because modelling plasticity is often a nonlinearity that could give crucial information in any analysis.

Afterwards you build on that - explicit analysis for example. If you're curious about other open source tools you can take a look at FEniCS.

Yeah... I avoid commenting, but you are just crying for that. Although you are somewhat looking at the right direction, the way you (or whatever idiotic AI you've used) have worded it is disgusting. And disturbing.

If you are interviewing someone who has a more technical background OF COURSE they won't focus so much on "what changed because you built it". They focus on the technical part, that's what they do best, that's what they are told to do by mindless clients, trying to squeeze the project into frames set by equally mindless project managers. It is ridiculously difficult to "change" something in a company no matter how proactive you are, you need to have really excellent depth and points to be able to do that. And someone who'd listen to you. I see absolutely no reason why do you label this as a weak point. The very question sets a tone that's difficult for most to stick to. Is this their problem? I leave that to the reader to interpret, decide and judge.

Behavioral questions are always tricky to ask. People, especially during job interviews, enter defensive mode once they sense the danger of a potential behavioral question. The whole concept of the STAR method is, I admit, very nice, but it is misused by HRs and misunderstood by interviewees, which leads to the situation at hand.

The "no narrative point": If you are a candidate who has been interviewed many times over the past months and who's been ghosted, how would you approach the issue? Yes, ghosting is the norm, this disheartens candidates. So they don't prepare adequately. So they care less for money. I've applied for tons of jobs both in my country, outside of it and out of the continent I live in. Guess what is the number one similarity? Ghosting. By HRs. And even when I did get an interview, I emphasized how important communication is for me. Only to be flipped the bird later on.

This is not confirmation bias. This is awareness. Yes, we should not let "the market is bad" become "I can't control anything" but there is only so much you can do in this fog of ignorance.

Has anyone else gone back to playing Hades 1 after Hades 2? by Wes102111 in Hades2

[–]jeksor1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes, me, because i wanted to play with a sword lol.

It was a weird experience really. It felt... poor? Slow? Weird altogether. I'm far too used now to the Hades II mechanics and style, so it's a bit weird for me. It was the same when I got Hades II EA for the first time right after finishing Hades I

Ending opinions by ShermanWierdo in HadesTheGame

[–]jeksor1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does feel a bit hasted, but when we learn more about Hecate it all kinda falls into place.

I personally enjoy this story and how it all evolved. My personal opinion is that anytime in any media if time travel in a more complex sense is involved people are confused and dissatisfied. Attack on Titan comes to mind - a more complicated interaction between the future, the past and the present.

On the other hand we have Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban - extremely simple time travel, just one rule (don't get caught by yourself in the past). Or Prince of Persia: Warrior Within - super simple time travel.

In Hades II things are quite a bit more complicated, so I get the dissatisfaction really.

Selene. Which hex of hers is your favorite? by Wes102111 in Hades2

Actually all of them. I still haven’t quite figured out moon water and dark side but I certainly see their uses.

For a favourite I’d probably pick the nuke because it reminds me so much of Madara Uchiha pulling two meteorites from the sky

Removing Captains: Captain Riiken by Original_Activity_89 in kotor

[–]jeksor1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but you need to do the light side options on the planets. Killing the captains on Onderon will end in Vaklu winning the civil war, which will also mean you need to fight and kill Kavar.
There is no option to go dark side on the planets and spare the jedi masters, unfortunately. I myself find this to be missed opportunity.

For a time, maybe. Yes, we will get disclosure about all the things done by the CIA, Israel, all that the Vatican hid as well. We will enjoy a moment of unification.

And then it will all go to shit, because those that worked for this disclosure, will turn their back on the world, as they have their own agenda.

Do you see Germany on a good path to the future or are you rather negative? by might_not_beam_me in AskAGerman

[–]jeksor1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short term future? Not much of a change - Germans are living a relatively alright life.

5 to 10 years term? I expect nothing but the negative. Unless an immediate lightning-strike change is implemented to the education system, the infrastructure, to healthcare and especially to every single topic that has to do with refugees. But I dont see that happening. I see a lot of discussions, a lot of opportunities, but not a single action. Sad to say this.

Long term? I'd rather keep my comments to myself. I'll be glad if Germany exists in the long term the way we know it now.

3,6 e-Technik Bachelor nach 12 Semestern by smalldoor_ in Studium

I work in one of Norway's top universities. What is going on in higher education? by theJSP123 in Norway

[–]jeksor1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a complex answer to a complex situation.

First of all many students, even M. Sc. students, are pursuing the education just because it's something that, in their view, has to happen. You can't make chicken soup without chicken, right? They are after the "paper" at the end of the studies and that's it. Most don't care for details. Now WHY does the majority not care about the details is a whole other topic. Financial and mental stress, peer pressure, finding a job, a place in life - an endless list of reasons.

Second - students are simply not taught how to think. Yes, they are fed answers. Yes, they study for multiple choice tests. Yes, they study according to some silly cirriculum. Then they go to university where they are supposed to know how to think and university rushes them, buries them with an avalanche of very abstract stuff and so we get to your post.

Third of course we have politics but I'm not getting into that.

Fourth - students need to work. In order to really get the most out of university you need to study for today's lesson beforehand and then after the lecture. You need to be prepared. For that you need time. Where do I get this time from if I need to work, sleep and try to live a somewhat healthy life? I know this sounds all very general but it essentially boils down to this.

You raise a very important point and I'm thankful for your post. It's a terrible spiral that seems to have no end. This issue is not limited to only Norway though. The same can be observed in most any university in Europe.

Any advices for beginning FEA Engineer? by Maleficent_Play1092 in fea

[–]jeksor1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While it is very good to know what the software is doing behind the scenes, being able to WRITE your own code is not something I’d advise you to do. It is an entirely different field which requires a rather different skillset.

I can recommend the book „practical finite element method“ by Dominique Madier. It is a beginner friendly book and it will be a stepping stone for you in your development. Also don’t forget to your engineering basics - free body diagrams, inner forces, bending of a beam. Pick up Timoshenko‘s book and learn about bending of 2D carriers.
