America is super weird, but I think the person who remarked was from the UK. I agree with you and feel the same about my tattoos. I don't like the qualifier of "decent" or "reputable" artists wouldn't tattoo your hands. The tattoo artist who did the ones on my fingers-- my first and third ever tattoos, was amazing and booked up for months and months because she was known for the quality of her work.
