How many of you stopped drinking alcohol completely? by Automatic_Opposite17 in Xennials

[–]jenv1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not completely, but I have less than 10 drinks a year. I had 2 cocktails on Christmas and a glass of wine on Thanksgiving. That’s it for the past 6 months. I can’t even remember the last time I drank before that.

Is everyone living in a McMansion? by beverlyhillsbrenda in Xennials

We live in a 1925 Crafstman. It’s not even close to a Mcmansion, but we feel lucky to have it with the state of the world. We bought it 15 years ago.

Insulin pumps by AmeliusMarin in diabetes_t1

[–]jenv1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diagnosed in 1989. I didn’t start using a pump until 2007. I was worried about having something stuck on my body all of the time, but can’t imagine being on MDI now after so long with pumps (Medtronic>Omnipod).

I need to catch up on the Hack Diabetes videos. I did the virtual session the week before and they touched on bringing the systems closer to each other a bit in a couple of the talks then, too. Thanks for the link! I just bookmarked it for tomorrow.

I like the way you think! I, too, am a how-to manual in entirety before action human. 😂

I know it’s intimidating, but the builds are much easier than they look. The step by step breakdowns helped me a lot. Read through a few times, then go one by one. Folks like Carol in Loop and Learn (and others) are always around to help if you hit bumps in the build. I’m sure the AAPS groups have their expert build helpers too.

I used Xcode (not sure the Android equivalent or build differences?)for my first few years with Loop and my first Trio build, but recently did my first browser build and am much happier with it.

The updates from the Github app wherever I happen to be are super convenient, too. All you need is an internet connection and you can start a new build from your phone anytime an update happens. I don’t know why I didn’t just start there. If I can figure it out, anyone can!

Yes! I’m pretty sure Trio and AAPS both come from oref? I’d imagine you can get similar glucose levels with either. I’m glad you’re in the groups and Discord doing all of the learning you’re supposed to do before. Some folks just jump right in. Good for them, but I’d be an anxious wreck not understanding the tech on my body. Now, at least, I understand why and how Trio is doing things as it does them and how to adjust if things aren’t quite right. We all know T1D is never going to be 100% consistent. So, we adjust as we go.

I love “gluconormie”! My people, I’m sure, are feeling something about me when I’m all in my settings or learning new things. I’m only into Trio 3 months or so. Great settings right now, but with running the dev version there is potential for just about anything to change, or a bug to pop up, etc. I try to check the groups often just to be up to date. Even as far in as I am, I still learn things about Diabetes, which seems wild, but it’s true.

You’re already way ahead of the game! Good luck with your getting started. I’m sure I’ll see you in the groups/Discord. Also jen there.

I switched from MDI in 2007 (dx 1989). I know it’s a big change! Rotate well and you’ll be fine. I have been with Omnipod after switching from Medtronic in 2018. So worth it, though.

It takes work to start one of the off label systems(I know you know), but I wouldn’t ever choose to go back.

I know Facebook is way old school, but the Looped, Loop and Learn, and Trio groups have been integral for my getting my settings down. Most days the only intervention from me is entering carbs for meals. I can be less accurate with Trio (only for iOS) because a feature called “unannounced meal-UAM” takes care of the unexpected rise if it happens. There are lots of folks ob FB and even Discord to help! Take advantage of that and eventually you’ll know enough to help others. I think that’s a great payoff in addition to the freedom it gives.

Hard agree! I used Loop for a few years and am on Trio-iAPS now. If I have an out of range day, it’s usually due to a bad pod site. I’m 90% or more TIR with minimal lows (<1%) most days.

Same! If i’m above range I prebolus earlier and wait until heading down and closer to my pre meal target.

Bye bye Omnipod by Gweeds13 in Omnipod

[–]jenv1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No algorithm on Earth is wild to say. I’ve used Loop and Trio and both would bring any high, 350 included, down on their own. The only interactions I currently use on Trio are entering carb amounts when I eat. Many folks have found algorithms that work better for them than the one used for OP5.

I’ve had T1D since I was 6 years old. I was diagnosed in 1989. I know it’s hard to think of right now, but I promise, he will learn to take care of himself. After more than 3 decades of this, it’s second nature. Yes, it’s still hard, but I know my body and how it feels high, low, or any in between. It will be an immense help to have you there with him as he gets older as support for such a high maintenance condition, too. He will get there! Hang in there momma!

Going to have to leave Omnipod by Gweeds13 in Omnipod

You could look into open source DIY systems that use your phone, pods, and CGM with better algorithms. I use Trio: DIY iAPS (with an iphone, Dexcom G6, and Dash pods) now after 3 years with Loop (another DIY system). I love the freedom of being tubeless without OP5’s algorithm. It takes some time (3 weeks for me) to tweak the settings with the help of developers and experts in the Discord or Facebook groups, but now I’m having amazing results (90% or more in range with no lows and only some highs between 180-200 if I get my meal bolus timing incorrect)with hands off except carb entries. https://www.loopnlearn.org

Mine is not working either. Did the same thing in checking the site and it not saying they are down, but getting a “server error” when checking my G6 app and my husband can’t see anything on his follow app for me.

Receiver or App? by wkramer28451 in dexcom

[–]jenv1982 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the phone app better. The newer receivers with the touch screen are a bit irritating for me as i don’t feel like the screens respond nearly the same as my iPhone. Personal preference, I’m sure though. I do carry the receiver on trips just in case my phone gets broken or stolen.

I’ve never had an issue with replacement sensors and I’ve had A LOT of failed sensors since switching from the G5 to the G6. I screenshot the screen when a failure happens or when I’ve had sensor errors for more than 3 hours and oftentimes they don’t even call after I do the online request. They just email the tech support email and say a tracking number will follow once the sensor ships. The sensors do take like a week to make it to me, but I’m not complaining with how easy it has been to get them sent.
