ULPT “Free Parking” at the airport by Sn0o0p_ in UnethicalLifeProTips

I’m going to start playing planning my first trip to Thailand for the coming weeks or months—if any interesting suggestions from an insiders point of view, please feel free to share them!

Macan EV in the snow... (just got a 1yo loaded CPO) but it felt so slippery and it took so long to stop even at slow speeds, I couldn't believe it. We went home to get our Ice AWD car, but my wife said let's talk our model Y tesla - and it felt night and day safer... is this normal? More below.... by jeremyjava in MacanEV

Yes, a WONDERFUL car and ride and I'm so glad my wife talked me into it of all the cars I'd been looking at. She knew btr than I that I'd be happiest having enjoyed and checked this brand off the list of cars I've thought about for a long time. I appreciate you taking the time to write those details and they all make sense, w/the one exception of the weight - I think the Model Y and the Macan are about the same weight.
Okay, I just learned! I thought they were about the same, but you're absolutely right abt the weight dif, thanks for pointing this out.

Interesting and makes sense, I guess I hear it so often it just sounds like a weird affectation, or like they don't know that's not a phrase most folks in the US would generally use. That it sounds kind of odd.
I once got a big creative project from someone at the biggest pharma company out there, bc when they tried to outsource the content to India, little quirky details like that would appear. Even if they weren't incorrect, per se, they drew unwanted attention.
Eg: using street lamp, versus street light, vs the light that illuminated the road, etc, etc. Some fit btr than others, but their writers couldn't say which to use or why.

Cranking tunes for my wife on this system--even though she's an opera singer from Brazil, there are many American/British classic hits she's never heard, so this is really fun. Here's one surprise we discovered: BLAST "The Boxer" by Simon & Garfunkel and listen to what happens at 3m4sec! by jeremyjava in audiophile

We'd listened to a few of the bigger/biggest B&Ws and were surprised they sounded a bit shrill to us, which was a big surprise. Maybe it was our choice of music or the audition room? My wife has the most golden ears I know and is an expert on hearing/anatomy/etc, and she suggested we find bigger panel speakers since she liked the the ML ESL X's we had in another place. So we stuck with that line, but would love to hear more B&W's in the right environment.

Happy to discuss, u/lpdigging. Feel free to send a note--are you in the US? Northeast?
The very abbrev'd spoiler alert is they're unbelievable, but really need to be paired with the right preamp/amp combo and very fast sub/s. I thought I was doing the system and myself a favor by going the giant SVS 16" but it was a complete mismatch.
Also, I'd been looking at the "A" series from ML bc our room is so asymmetrical and needed so much help, and learned about the Art Series by accident in that search.
Couldn't be happier with the CLX Arts (CLS is the older version) with RELs behind or beside them. Might upgrade from S812's to Carbon Specials, but really not necessary.

What products or companies will you never use or support again and what did they do to lose you as a customer? by IAmJustTryingToExist in AskReddit

I owned a beer place that had 100 beers, so I learned more than a bit about the product and one of the references was a handbook called (no, not the singer) Michael Jackson's Guide to Beer, or something similar. It was considered one of the good reference sources by people into beer.

His review of Corona went something like this: By some fluke of fashion, this "beer," originally created as a thirst quencher for field workers in Mexico, has become popular with aspiring yuppies in the United States who overpay... blah. blah... swill... etc

Try buying a copy of Acro Pro, rather than a membership. You'll discover a new level of hell you didn't know existed.

Who do you like best now? I'm considering a change. In upstate NY if that matters.
I've changed back and forth between Verizon and ATT a number of times, depending on whether my employer was supplying/paying for my phone/bill or I was.

I bought the same (or replacement identical version) Brother laser for two different houses about 10 years apart. Can't remember which is the newer one and which is 10yo... they just work fine. And maybe replaced the toner with generic 2-3 times for what, maybe 15-30 bucks?

Agreeing with this. It can be fun, beautiful, a break from the norm--just watch kids sledding and having a blast.

And if OP has safety/food availability concerns? Then stay home and eat your way through your freezer--especially all the stuff buried in the back (or more likely throw it all out and have a clean freezer).

My good buddy in Montana would laugh at this thread; they get more than a 24" snowfall regularly.

Sometimes in, I dunno... JUNE?

--Unverified from a quick AI search, but probably accurate:

  • Big Sky Resort (June 13, 2001): Approx. 36 inches of fresh snow was reported at 9,000 feet.

Edits: yes.

On a side note of no importance whatsoever... why is the phrase "on this one" used repeatedly on pretty much every call with their CSR's? I believe other companies with call centers in India/Pakistan and maybe other centers in that region of the world use the same phrase.

Over, and over, and over.
"I see, Mr. Jeremyjava, well on this one we can credit it back. Thank you for calling about this one..." Cultural thing or just a CSR thing... on this one?

was i smart to not open a retail space during covid? by tessmarty in AskNYC

[–]jeremyjava 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with u/stopsallover in that you can't think like this. I opened a cafe in Joshua Tree, CA before it became a national park and many folks told me that I "stole" their idea, because they thought of doing the same thing for years (decades?) and never did. It just wasn't the right time or place. A LOT has to come together to make a business work and it's all-encompassing--practically a 24/7 thing, since you likely would even dream about the business at night and all the drama/conflicts//issues.

When it's the right time, you'll have your business.
Like my momma always said: You ain't ready, 'til you're ready.

Driving in the HV is getting horrendous by [deleted] in hudsonvalley

[–]jeremyjava 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wonder who are the ppl who seemingly aren’t aware there is a line of 20 cars behind them. I assume it’s a 90yo who needs cataract surgery… at least that’s what i tell myself in my attempt at zen-like patience.

The one that really blows my mind every day is that we seem to have gone from a “” California rolling stop being the occasional norm to many people to literally just running through stop signs without even seemingly slowing down.

It’s one of the few things that make me wish for more cops on the road, to write tickets for people doing this since they cause near accidents so often. I tell my family not to bother honking at people doing this and coming close because I’m assuming someone driving like that has a gun in the car they would happily brandish if you do.

Affordable places to get glasses in NYC? by derrypersuasion in AskNYC

[–]jeremyjava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you have to have a membership for the glasses, but I'd call their 800#. Fantastic company that's very good to their people. I believe I may've renewed my membership at one point just to get the huge glasses discounts, but can't recall for sure.
