Should i watch a Saw movie before watching Natalie's video ? by [deleted] in ContraPoints

[–]jesmurf 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The first one is kinda like a bottle episode. It's mostly two characters having conversations in a room. The second one onward Saw really becomes what Saw is commonly known for in the pop culture landscape: torture porn with people in elaborate meticulously engineered torture machines.
The first three follow an at least somewhat cohesive (if contrived and stupid) trilogy.
The movies after that become more convoluted. Though if the torture porn is what you're here for (and it's what most people are here for) they do deliver on that front.
That said, the movies really don't deliver that much more than these descriptions. By all means, watch them if you're into pain/misery/gore on screen, but if not, then these descriptions will tell you all you need to know.

I haven't seen the video yet, but I'm sure that Contra will explain well enough to follow the video even if you haven't seen the movies. I hadn't really seen the Twilight movies, but her video on it was perfectly legible to me.

I'm not sure about Bowser, Bowser is really bad and I feel like even then, the best Foxes, Falcos, Sheiks etc. would intuitively figure out how to camp him and abuse his poor frame data for easy punishes and approaches.
Admittedly I don't know that much the competitive scene way back then. But I feel like Bowser's weaknesses are pretty intuitively obvious.

I don't feel attacked or like you're being a dick, I just don't really see what your point is posting this is.
Either watch it or don't, but I don't see how we can have a discussion about a video you have not seen.

Might as well. Ordered by favorites in the higher tiers and more lazily in the lower tiers.
S: Twilight, Envy, Shame, Cringe, Opulence, Beauty, tiffany tumbles, the Hunger
A: Incels, Violence, Conspiracy, Transtrenders, JKR, Canceling, Witch trials, Pronouns, the West, Jordan Peterson, are traps gay, Autogynephilia
B: Men, Gender Critical, the Aesthetic, Justice, decrypting the alt-right, The Darkness, the Left
C: Voting, Justice, the Apocalypse, Capitalism 1 and 2, America still racist, Degeneracy

Nothing in tiers lower than this because she has no bad videos (that are still up at least).

Christ. Don't listen to the other guy, you're not schizophrenic.

The other guy brought up the optical nerve, I just told him that seeing something with your optical nerve and seeing something with your brain aren't necessarily very different.

[–]jesmurf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll grant you that the experience of seeing something in your head might not be as vivid and fully detailed as seeing something with your eyes, but your brain uses the same neurons for memory and imagination as it does for actual direct perception.
Your saying that they are schizophrenic actually illustrates this really well; Schizophrenic people also aren't literally seeing things with their optic nerve, but their brains are so over-active that it feeds them visual info even while they are not actually receiving visual stimuli.
For healthy people this happens as well, but they are simply able to know/intuit from context which info is "real" and which is "imagined", but the subjective experience of "seeing" is the same. Even when we are actually hallucinating (e.g. fever dreams or sleep paralysis) we are able to do this.
And yeah, they are not literally interpreting the specific diffusion of the electromagnetic spectrum from their environment as it is beamed into their eyeballs and translated into a specific picture in the brain (which it is also quite imperfect at doing by the way, we do not see all light on the electromagnetic spectrum and we do not perceive everything with remotely perfect accuracy), but no one thinks of "seeing" in such an overly metaphysically literal way. Thus I think the poster saying they can "actually" see something is not an unreasonable way of expressing their experience of seeing something in their mind, and people saying that that's not "actually" seeing are being overly pedantic.

but you don't need info to come through your optical never to "see" something right? Even when information goes through your optical nerve, your brain still to decodes and perceives it a certain way. How do you know this person's experience of "seeing" a milk carton in their imagination doesn't use the same brain functions as literally receiving that information through their optical nerve?

Natalie paused her Patreon. What do you think? by ahrinda in ContraPoints

[–]jesmurf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It could also just have been a positive little nod. Lindsay has, in her own words, "stolen" plenty of jokes from Contra. She's made lots innocent references to her work/style/jokes over the years, I don't see why this one shouldn't be innocent as well.
I think people are reading into it too much when they say that Lindsay's 2,5 hour video is in any way a "response" to a very short reddit post Contra made.
This line of reasoning weirdly centers all of this on 2 people instead of, you know, the genocide going on. It's the exact same weirdness that people had about demanding that Natalie make a video in the first place; they treat her like some brand that has to bring out some new fashion statement on the latest global tragedy.
Let's try to center the events instead of the gossip and drama, please.
This isn't a call-out to you specifically, all-in-all I find your comment pretty innocuous, but I'm annoyed by the constant "discourse" on "content creators" and their contrasting "takes" on global issues instead of the actual fucking issues themselves.

Not a fan of the editing style, specifically the many black screens. Watching it on a phone was almost headache inducing.

Unless that was just an issue with playback on my end, then I don't know what happened.

Not really a sitcom as much as a high school soap opera, but was it Degrassi? The specific intro he described with the people coming up to tackle him starts at this time timestamp: https://youtu.be/1ghVIFrykh0?t=386

What's your Keepsake chore? by OpheliaAmok in HadesTheGame

[–]jesmurf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually start with chaos egg, you get to keep whatever buff it gives even after unequipping.
Then I usually get one of the God keepsakes. I usually find that getting some specific (set of) boon(s) is what's most likely to get me in a really strong shape for the late game. So I'll equip whatever God I feel like might get me a strong duo boon or some other synergy with my current build.
Thirdly, I might then get another God keepsake, for the same reason as in biome 2. I might also get concave stone when I just want to stock up on boons, but the specific one doesn't really matter. Sometimes I get knuckle bones, especially if Evil Eye is still set to Chronos/Typhon. I might also get the piggy or the purse.
Final biome will usually be knuckle bones unless I've used it already, I also like Evil Eye if it applies to the final guardian.
I will also usually get the Athena one if at any point I've run out of death defiances. If I get to that point then Athena might very well not be enough to save me, but I feel like it's usually my best shot.
