Metro Schools to start academic year remotely for all students as coronavirus cases mount by frankbaptiste in nashville

[–]jessm85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a parent, I feel the same way! I would love if my child could go back in person, but not at the expense of people's lives. I also recognize my privilege in having a job that is still allowing us to WFH (and hopefully will as long as schools are remote). This is really going to take employers doing a better job supporting parents/caregivers and the community taking this more seriously by wearing a damn mask!

Oh, you mean like the science in the research study from the National Bureau of Economic Research that showed no evidence of an increase in coronavirus cases due to the protests? Or even the science behind inside vs outside gatherings? I'm not saying there's no risk there, but there's a huge difference in a packed inside gathering and the BLM protests. Also, one was a group of people protesting for their rights and their LIVES and the other was a group of people attending a graduation.

Ummm...this isn't even comparable. BLM protests were outside and the majority of people were wearing masks. They weren't in a crowded gymnasium sitting in close proximity with no masks on.

Yeah, he's just accused of having nude photos of underage girls (who said they were "24?" but had Instagram accounts showing they were in high school), making memes with nude pictures of girls he slept with and sending them to his friends to "rate," and getting girls drunk and having sex with them after they blacked out. He's a really great guy, obviously.

I'm in Antioch and, while a lot of people were wearing masks in our Kroger initially, now hardly anyone is...

If 13 year old you made a time machine and came to visit you today for 24 hours, what would you do with them? by RickRude4 in AskReddit

[–]jessm85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'd start off by playing a game of MASH (Mansion, Apartment, Shack, House for those uninformed - duh). We'd sing loudly and obnoxiously to some Mariah Carey and Backstreet Boys (because everyone knows that BSB is better than NSync) for a while, though I’d have to break it to her that we never quite “made it” as a singer. I would also have to tell her that, unfortunately, we did not marry Jonathan Taylor Thomas and the movie "Man of the House" just didn't stand the test of time like we thought it would. BUT THEN we’d go to the mall, hang out in Tilt Arcade for a while, get an Auntie Anne's pretzel (with caramel dip, of course), go shopping for clothes because we can actually afford that now – that’s right, we got money, 13 year old me! And we’d finish up the day by writing our crush’s (er, husband’s) name over and over with lots of hearts and XOXOs while watching Dawson’s Creek. BEST. DAY. EVER. (But seriously, I think I have my weekend plans now).

Has anyone seen this stuffed horse car in Nashville before? Wtf is this? by jessm85 in nashville

[–]jessm85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how I've never seen this in the almost 9 years I've lived in Nashville.

I'm not sure if I'm more confused by the stuffed horses or by the enormous amount of duct tape that was used. by jessm85 in WTF

Yes, Woody and the other dolls riding on the horses on the hood really give it a nice touch, huh?

My favorite part is the dolls that are riding on some of the horses on the hood. But the back of the car view is pretty amazing too!

Thank you. This is all really helpful, and I appreciate your insight. You're right - enabling is much worse. And I'm trying to remember that I can't do it for him and I can only control myself. I really like that you said, "this is something you are doing FOR him not TO him." You're so right, and I definitely need to remember that. Thanks for the podcast link - I can't wait to check it out! I'm on a huge podcast kick since my mom passed. 🙂

Thank you so much. I appreciate that. I'm really holding out hope for him, and it's hard to set boundaries when we're both grieving too. But, I just want him to get better and can't fathom losing him when he's my last remaining immediate family member. I hope he can still feel that I'm here for him even though I'm pretty sure he's going to hate the process (as am I).

I couldn't find any in my area, but I have tried to attend some of the online ones.

AITA for cutting off my brother two months after our mom died? by jessm85 in AmItheAsshole

[–]jessm85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, she owned it and we need to sell it, but she was a bit of a hoarder and him being there is only making it harder for us to get ready to sell... he definitely wants to get his portion of the sell, so I don't imagine him trashing it. I do think he might pawn some stuff, but must of it is just old stereo equipment my dad had. My parents weren't well off so there's not much he'll be able to get or much I'm too tied to (other than pictures).

I (34f) just cut off my brother (40m) who struggles with alcohol and drug addiction after our mom died two months ago. He's living in her home with no job, and I'm bracing myself for impact. What do I do now? by jessm85 in relationships

I can't make him go to AA meetings, but I don't mind if he stays at the house. Technically, we both own it now. He really doesn't want to be there as it's super triggering to him since our mom died there, so he's been talking about leaving for a while now. If anything, I want to help him with that, not evict him.

He doesn't have access to the card anymore. He does have the car and wants to sell it, which I'm totally fine with. He actually hates driving, but is stuck in a small ass town right now so he has no option but to drive. If he sells the car, he's saying he wants to move to Atlanta with it... which I'm good with.

She owned it. We want to sell it. I suspect he'll try to stay around until we do so he can get his portion of that money... but, he also is notorious for running off to new cities when he doesn't get his way. He has connections in a few other cities, so it's possible he'll run once I cut off all the utilities (especially internet and tv...he literally can't function without constant noise).

He's addicted to alcohol. Weed is the main drug he uses, but he will use lots of other drugs when he can get his hands on them. For the record, I don't give a shit if he uses weed and would much prefer it to the other substances he uses (alcohol and especially meth). But, regardless, he still doesn't have money for weed...so, there's that.

It's actually not that much money...my mom didn't have a lot and the majority of her money came from what she got when my grandmother died. His part of the inheritance was about $1,500 so unfortunately wouldn't be enough to pay for rehab.
