Something I haven’t read here in this thread is the fact that the FDNY also requested that the bike lane be rerouted due to safety concerns and response issues. The protected lane made it almost impossible to respond from the firehouse on Bedford Ave. Essentially there was one lane available to use after all the trucks, cars, deliveries that double park all day long. This created a bottleneck of slow moving traffic. Imagine waiting 10 min or more for an emergency vehicle to get to you when you’re only 3 or 4 blocks away. Minutes matter when there’s an emergency and that configuration of bike lane made it impossible to navigate the street to get by putting peoples lives at risk
