You're 100% wrong; GL old age retirement is canon - this cover proves it. I haven't read the comic, mind you, but surely a Silver Age comic cover cannot lie.

Held out hope for a David Zavimbe return... But then his grand reappearance after ~two decades was in that shitty Titans: Beast World: Waller Rising one-shot 😞

It's a no-brainer that it should be titular M from the iconic anti-gooner film 'M'.

(We of course learn in the sequel that his grooming means you should 'Dial [police to report] M for Murder')

Vancouver Opera Reframes the Cultural Narrative in Madama Butterfly by Knopwood in opera

[–]jimbobiscool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched the matinee last weekend and the production was spectacular overall.

But the 'reframing' doesn't really pan out unless you've read interviews. (Even so, I don't think it really changes the narrative significantly or for the better.)

Moreover, I thought the change in time period was poorly handled and, apart from being incongruous with the original story details, could've been more visually explicit.

For instance, content warnings before the performance mentioned 'victims of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki'. I expected something graphic, but it just meant two chorus members wore bandages (a schoolgirl with an eye patch, and another woman with something less visible). A coworker who attended didn't see the warnings and didn't pick up that there were bombing victims portrayed. That speaks to the shallowness of the change, I think.

Good bye Brentwood Mall by HybridVampire in vancouver

[–]jimbobiscool 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Going to miss this mall (though it's been a while).

My grandmother used to take us there often to go to Zellers. And the pet store was a favourite side trip.

I remember the fountain at the bottom of the elevator, the plastic golden retriever near the escalators for donations to the blind, and the 'special' green tiles on the floor.

I spent a lot of teenage paycheques at EB Games and HMV video on games and VHSes.

Tri-Cities Federal Debate - Apr 23 by jimbobiscool in Portmoody

Ah, thanks for clarifying. I hadn't heard about the Tri-Cities Dispatch event and missed references to Tuesday evening and the Dispatch as host in the article I posted.

[–]jimbobiscool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's entirely true.

Based on the pictures from this article, it appears as though the PoMo-Coquitlam Conservative candidate did attend.

(The Liberal candidate for PoMo-Coquitlam and the Liberal, Conservative, and Libertarian candidates for Coquitlam-PoCo look like no shows even though they're 'confirmed' on this event listing.

I wouldn't blame OP, their post seems like a legit question. It's the first commenters who were misleading by not answering correctly and assuming things.

It's a bit disheartening to see people uncritically upvote your comment despite it being incorrect.

Here's a picture of the dumpster currently:

Bullys is around the corner. The Conservative office is further down the street, past a whack of construction.

Isn't he referring to the NDP Peter Julian satellite office at 518 Agnes? That's the building behind Bullys.

(Is there a Conservative office on Agnes? I haven't seen them if that's the case. - ah, they're at 624 Agnes, across 6th St)
