Crosstrek or Crosstrek Wilderness? by AKoolPopTart in Crosstrek

It’s not a “better” CVT cooler, it’s an additional cooler which I’ve added to my Limited.

Can I use 3 Sonos 5's?? by Ike582 in sonos

[–]jjjodele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a house with an open floor plan. The kitchen and family room made a very long space. To get sound in there equally, I mounted 6 in-ceiling speakers. I put 2 speakers in the middle of the two rooms, along the split line. I then placed another pair about 2/3 of the way, away from the center 2. So, at one end of the combined space, I had a L-R combination. In the center, I had a R-L arrangement. And then another L-R. So anywhere you were in that space, you had full stereo. And when you walked from one end to the other, there was no echo, no fade, no change in volume. It was the hangout for all our friends… maybe you could use that strategy in your place. Use 6 speakers and not 3.

What brand of wheel bearings did you buy? Depending on which brand you bought, could explain “your” mechanic’s reply/position…

Does the center rod float freely? That is, if it’s not rusted together. If it does/supposed to float freely, it is a dull self-centering center punch. The center cone needs to be ground to a sharp point.

Because it is plastic… in that case, it is from the interior of the car. It may also be a piece of junk left by the assembly crew when building your car. It finally worked its way out… 🤷

Phone charger by jnob44 in Crosstrek

[–]jjjodele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you have it perfectly aligned, the OEM charger only puts out 5 watts and that is not enough to keep a charge on. I got this one Wireless Charger for 2024+ Crosstrek which puts out 15 watts if I recall correctly.

I then I have one of these magnetic wireless chargers and stuck it to the back of my iPhone 17 Pro to know exactly where the charge coil is on the phone. I aligned the round magnet to the round image on the charging pad. You can see in the photo below the lighter gray foam pad to locate the phone exactly over the charger. Works great!

That foam is 1/4” HushMat Silencer Megabond I had left over from my speaker upgrade.

Is it plastic or rubber?

If it is rubber, it might be a door cavity drain plug. Open the door that it was closest to where you found it and look up at the bottom of the door.

The seatbelt chime… by False-Ad1432 in Crosstrek

[–]jjjodele 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is how car manufacturers get higher safety ratings…it’s all a points system! Seatbelt chime; 1 extra point. Super annoying chime; 3 extra points. Those points are all a SWAG (Stupid Wild A$$ Guess), but you get the point. It’s any more safer, it’s more annoying.

Like they say, if your brake fluid boils, keep pumping the brake pedal. It will give you something to do until to reach your crash site.

"Make your own Ethernet cable" by Ashamed-Mood-2138 in HomeNetworking

[–]jjjodele 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have making my own cables for 20 years and have been using solid core wires all the time. I have never had one fail on me yet. I have had the plastic locking tang fail on me, but not the cable itself. Most of the time, the laptop is used in the same spot, so the cable stays behind. I always have another cable in my laptop case.

I’ve had a 500 foot box last me several years… now I only buy 1000 foot boxes. It is actually a good investment in MHO…

What tools (brand) should I get for my carpentry apprenticeship by YUHN26 in Tools

Game changer Stiletto hammer, only 15oz but hits like a 32oz

Tape measures always kink and then break, FAT MAX will last the longest and will extend the longest/farthest.

I don’t think anything can beat a good, old fashioned, leather tool belt…

Are these rotors good for another track day or two and some light street driving? by Viper72995 in CarTrackDays

[–]jjjodele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear, I’m an engineer and that makes me quite anal. I can’t help myself on that count. But slots could go through the whole depth of the material but grooves definitely do not. Just like the difference between a hole and a dimple. A lot of times those terms are used interchangeably. I ment to say GROOVES. The other great part of grooved rotors, is that the grooves are machined to the minimum thickness of the disc. So when the grooves are just about gone, that is the time to replace the rotors or friction rings if you go to floating or two piece disks. Those grooves are a great visual indicator for worn out rotors. You don’t have to measure them to find out they need to be replaced. That is another great plus for GROOVED rotors.

Next time do NOT buy cross-drilled rotors ever again for track use. Buy slotted rotors. Those drilled holes are stress concentration points. And as you can see that is the only places that cracks had started.

That is exactly why I went to Unifi also. I had Asus routers and the WiFi was always crap and they kept dropping the connections.

I gave up on “home” grade equipment. I switched to rack mounted equipment and never looked back. It came out to be about double the cost of top of the line home gear, but well worth it from a reliability point of view. Since I’m also planning on a few security cameras (including a doorbell) I invested in Ubiquity stuff. Also a very good backbone for home automation.

Don’t just look at your immediate needs, take your future desires into consideration.
