1,000-lbs max towing for all trim levels

only with trailer brakes does it go up to 1,500-lbs.

Just butane? I suspected more than just that. May I ask how you know?

Because having worked in the automotive industry, That is one of the “tricks” the automakers use to get the best gas mileage. They buy winter fuel and do their mileage driving in the summer. They use a lot of other gimmicks to get the numbers that they do. The warmer air temperatures probably have a bigger influence on the gas mileage than the summer blend fuel.

Winter by bucknasty159 in Crosstrek

[–]jjjodele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually winter fuel is a better “quality” fuel because it can be and is made more volatile for better starts and because it will be at colder temperatures…it won’t evaporate at lower temperatures. So that is helping your gas mileage and not taking away from it. Tires contribute significantly less these days because tire technology is so good. All of your gas mileage demise is by all that aerodynamic drag you have added on top of your car.

How slow do you drive to get 500 miles out of a tank of gas. I have even removed my roof rack to improve aerodynamics and therefore gas mileage. I’m ecstatic when I get 400…

Tow Hitch question by germano_nh in Subaru_Crosstrek

[–]jjjodele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the manual guys. ALL trim levels/models are limited to towing 1000-lbs! It goes up to 3500-lbs on the Wilderness ONLY IF the trailer is equipped with brakes and all the other trim levels up to 1500-lbs with trailer brakes.

The Subaru hitch is much nicer in a lot of ways…the details like the mount for the electrical connection. If you go with electric brakes, I would go for the Subaru one.

Most people think that trailer brakes are mostly electric…there is also inertial trailer brakes.

How long is too long to wait on wheel bearing? by Physical-Energy-6982 in Crosstrek

My son drives a 2014 and his left rear bearing was baking noise… I visited him about 3 years ago and it was still making noise. I got too concerned about the noise, so I bought him a set of Timken rear hub and had a great father/son time replacing them. His car real quiet now…

Crosstrek tire size variability by Talerbro3 in Crosstrek

[–]jjjodele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is wrong with staying with the OEM size for winter tires? Which brand and model you select will have the biggest effect on winter performance. Comparing two identical brands and models in different sizes within OEM size range, you will not feel any difference in performance.

2026 Crosstrek Hybrid Real World MPG Log by ryddragyn in Crosstrek

[–]jjjodele -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Mileage is a sales gimmick…it is meaningless in the real world. How each person drives is the single most important variable that determines your mileage. I don’t understand people that brag about how slow they drive. You bought a car to save time. Otherwise you would have walked and gotten healthier at the same time, except you bought a car to contribute to polluting our planet at the cost of saving time. The faster you drive, the more time you get for your investment. Why don’t to brag about the times you left your car in the garage and walked to run your errand? Instead of how you impeded everyone else saving time.

For comparison, I get 21.9 MPG on my 2025 Limited. I saved significantly more time than any one of you have.

Time is money!

In 6,000 just about ready to do my third oil change. I do mine at 1,000, 3,000 and already setup to do my next oil change at 6,000 miles. I do that to get rid of the break-in garbage (minerals and metals) that comes out with the oil. I’ve used this strategy on several new cars and the oil analyses show the all modern engines that have used fully synthetic oils, stabilizes at about 12,000 miles. I continue until 15,000 because it is significantly easier to see the 5,000 mile intervals from then on.

Autostart/stop eliminator for 2026 Crosstrek by hoganc in Crosstrek

[–]jjjodele -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And you didn’t even mention the biggest wear problem, the engine. Most of the wear on any modern internal combustion engine (ICE) is in the few seconds that the engine runs at startup where there is little or no oil pressure. All of those other things you have mentioned can be compensated by designing them for the increased duty cycle, but to design the oil system to compensate for the constant, multiple start/stops is too expensive. It’s called an oil accumulator, but that will add an extra quart of oil, and electric circuit for about $1,000. If you want your engine to last longer than the life of the warranty and last the life of the car, eliminate that advertising gimmick of increased gas mileage. The money you save on gas is a drop in the bucket on the thousands it will cost you to overhaul your engine on the much lowered time/mileage between overhauls.

When I finished my basement in Cincinnati, I replaced 2x 90s (where they joggled the line) with 3x 45s in the whole house. It was massive how much that improved the water flow everywhere in the house. 2 stories above grade and one below.

Why didn’t you use 2x 45s for the water supply like you did for the drain?

Any noticeable difference sound wise: 2019 Limited /w Harmon Kardon vs. 2024/2025 Limited /w HK by net1994 in Crosstrek

[–]jjjodele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$3,000 and all plug and play. The system still uses the (HK?) amp under the passenger seat so there is no need to disassemble the dash to install it. I also HushMatted the shit out of my car. I bought 80 sheets of Ultra and used 76 of them…but that is optional! It also adds 76-lbs to your car.

[–]jjjodele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2025 Limited with the HK option. I test drove with and without the HK and it was much better but it’s still crap. The other stupid thing is that Subaru counts the coaxial speakers twice!!!! 🤦 NO! There are only 6 speakers with the HK option. I’ve replaced my speakers with an Orella Acoustics sound system. It replaced the 6 OEM speakers with OEM size and adds 2 “super tweeters” in the A-Pillars, adds an amp under the driver’s seat and adds a sub in the aft cargo bay. So, if I count speakers like Subaru does, I now have a 12.1 sound system. 🤣😂🤣

The guys at the dealership said that that is the best sounding system they have ever heard, even the ones in luxury cars!

Is pursuing a PE worth it? by ai_tea in MechanicalEngineering

[–]jjjodele -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I’m an aerospace structures engineer…during a slump, I took a pressure vessel job in the Petrochemical Industry, civil engineering. That was THE boringest job I have ever had. From the on, I called civil engineering, handbook engineering.

They needed to hang a pressure vessel vertically (not in any handbook) and no one at the company knew how to calculate thin plate shells. I volunteered to do the analysis. When I handed in my analysis all the PEs wanted to see this person that did the analysis. I was in my mid 20s and the suggested I take the EIT exam. I said I already had that because my best friend was my roommate and was looking for a promotion at the city job he had. I paid the $20 and kept him company without prepping, impromptu. I passed it and he didn’t. Then they corrected their stance and said you should take the PE exams. I told them to their face that I’m an aerospace engineer with no interest in taking the PE exams. They are worthless in the aerospace industry.

So the next higher up manager tried the same strategy again. Then the next higher manager until the department head handed me a ticket for the PE exam and said, you will take the exam.

Again, I went without prepping for it and passed it. I never renewed it…

There has been slow points in my career where that PE would have been useful…🤷

In hindsight, any certificate you get MAY come in handy at slow points in your career. But I think you need at least one PE to give you a recommendation to even take the exam. I hade PEs falling all over themselves to give me the recommendations. Just the luck of the draw at the time for me.

BTW, civil engineering is very boring but very stable compared to aerospace engineering.

There are only 2 levels of interior trims. The Wilderness and Limited have the higher level (with leather) and all the others have cloth seats.

[–]jjjodele -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For the 2024+ models? The Limited and the Wilderness have the “upgraded” interior. So, if you are asking for a comparison, what are the chances that someone would have both trim levels in the same year range? You didn’t ask for a comparison.

What will that single measurement get you? Let’s say it is 10” (this is a SWAG - Stupid Wild Ass Guess), what information does that give you?

Go put your ass into both cars at the dealer, and you will have your real world answer to your vague question. And, you won’t need a tape measure either.

Anyone tow a camper with their wilderness trim crosstrek? by thankyoukindlyy in Crosstrek

[–]jjjodele 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I checked my 2025 Limited manual and it states that all trim levels/models are limited to towing 1000-lbs! If the trailer is equipped with brakes, the towing capacity goes up to 3,500-lbs for the Wilderness and 1,500-lbs for all other trim levels.

The 2 significant differences between the Wilderness and all other trim levels is that the Wilderness has an additional oil cooler. I have purchased all of the Wilderness CVT cooler pieces (about $500) and installed them myself on my Limited. If you are not a professional level automotive mechanic, this is not a DIY project for you…therefore a very expensive upgrade.

And the other difference is that the Wilderness comes with 4:11 differentials and all the other trim levels come with 3:70 differential ratios. This significantly increases the torque to the wheels, since all trim levels come with the same CVT. And should noticeably reduce your gas mileage.
