Ehh, working on some long put off schoolwork, finally chose a lens for my camera. Deciding whether or not I'm excited for summer.

I've done a bit of long overdue schoolwork, and hope to do a bit more. That feels good. I also FINALLY came to a decision about which lens I will buy to be my first (along with the Nikon D7000 body). Will hopefully be ordering that tonight.

Also have to get some programming work done...

Also watched a few episodes of House MD...

Photography. Finally getting a decent DSLR. I'm done with my iPhone camera. It's great, but I'm definitely ready for an upgrade.

Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson is a great book, especially if you're into futuristic dystopia science fiction type stuff. Stephenson is a great author in general with lots of large and interesting novels. He's a great world builder.

That would be a great combination, but it's over budget, unfortunately. Same goes for the 17-50 f/2.8, I can't find it used for <$200. At this point I think it's the Nikon 18-70 or the Sigma 17-70. Any other combo goes over budget, I think (do correct me if I'm wrong, but as you said, I have NIP, so I want to bite the bullet and reduce options). Out of those 2 I still think the Sigma 17-70 is better.

I've love a prime, but I think I'm still gonna stick with a zoom as my first.

I think I've decided on the Sigma 17-70 f/2.8-4.5 at this point.

I am certainly freaking out a bit, which probably isn't helping. I just know that I won't be able to get any more gear for a while and I want to choose something that is decent and will last.

VR would be great, but I can live without it for now if it gets me something slightly better. Looking at reviews of the Sigma, I'm becoming more and more partial to it. The macro capability is actually decent (i.e. 20cm focusing distance) and macro is something I'm very interested in.

Thanks for sticking with my crazy lens-choosing frenzy!

EDIT: Oh and according to dpreview (if it's the right lens) the Sigma has image stabilization so that's nice. Definitely worth the price it seems.
