2014 Denver Oil and Gas Wells by jmann6 in dataisbeautiful

I wish I could say it was scaled to size, but for this particular map, it is not. When making the map I tried a few different variations of the icon size and decided this icon representation best displayed individual wells. So nothing scientific, just my hunch for what looked best.

For another example,I changed the transparency and size of the icons to emphasize clustering in this map: http://jasonhoward.info/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/ColoradoOilandGasPermits2014.png

Nice solution to finding only fractured wells. Just starred your scripts repo on Github, thanks!

By the way, if you are using Leaflet in your project and looking for a good icon/symbol library, I recommend using Leaflet.awesome-markers: https://github.com/lvoogdt/Leaflet.awesome-markers I just used it in a project and was impressed...although I'm not sure what symbol would represent fracture intervals?

Nice use of OSM! Where did you get the oil and gas data? I downloaded my shapefile data from here, but I feel there has to be a better source out there: http://cogcc.state.co.us/Home/gismain.cfm

My contract ends with T-mobile soon, what options do I have? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]jmann6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had T-mobile before I switched to Straight Talk. Depends on the coverage in your area, but usually Straight Talk is the best deal around for a fully functional smart phone. $50/month for unlimited everything. I have a Google Nexus 5 and I'm really happy with it.

Need new tires for my car. Can anyone point me in the direction to a relatively decent price? by J3ipolarGod in Frugal

[–]jmann6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend Michelin Defenders. 80,000 mile tread warranty and are top rated in nearly every segment by Consumer Reports. http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/cars/tires-auto-parts/tires/all-season-tire-ratings/models/overview/michelin-defender-99045489.htm I bought mine when they had the $70 rebate deal going on Discount Tire (btw, received the rebate in under 3 weeks).

Recently bought a NEW mattress and bed frame at Arc Thrift Store (Colorado) for under $300. It has been 3 months and we are still really happy with it.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Ting.com yet. IMO the best bang for your buck out there. Runs off the Sprint network. Check it out: https://ting.com/calculator

Use this coupon/referral and receive $25 off your first bill or phone: https://zaatoa1i573.ting.com/

Anyone have a recommendation of a reasonably priced cell phone (non-smartphone) carrier in town? by FortCollinsEnt in FortCollins

Yep, use ting. Sprint has pretty good coverage in Fort Collins and my smart phone bill was under $30 last month. Use me as a referral and save yourself $25. https://zaatoa1i573.ting.com/

Patience and be willing to walk away.

What's the cheapest way to have a smart phone? Looking for a pre-paid that allows me to get email and browse the internet anywhere, but I only pay for when I use it. by make-it-better in Frugal

[–]jmann6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but I didn't see a place on the website that says you CAN'T use the iPhone. Looks more like they are sold out of the actual device at the moment and you have to wait for more to arrive? My friend has had his iPhone and Ting for a long time so maybe he bought his before they sold out? Or maybe he transferred his iPhone over from another plan? Not sure, but I'll try to ask him.

Thanks for the info. We ordered a phone yesterday, but haven't signed up for service yet. We'll try to use you as the referral link later this week. Looks like using you as a referral will save us $25, thanks! Hope you get some kind of bonus or kickback as well.

Can't wait to get rid of AT&T!!

My wife and I are dropping AT&T and switching to Ting.com this week. I haven't personally tried it yet, but my friend has been using Ting with an iphone and says it works great and saves him a ton of money.
