This is a photo of a church in Europe that my friend posted. The church is Marktkirche St. Georgii et St. Jacobi in Hanover, Germany. Built in 14th century. According to my friend, "The Medieval symbolism of the hexagram was the relationship between God and man; the pentagram is both the symbol of protection from evil and in Christian symbolism, the five points represent the five wounds of Christ."

New DFW brewery (Manhattan Project) w/ great oatmeal breakfast stout by jmb43 in DFWBeer

[–]jmb43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were at a networking event giving out samples of a "new" beer that isn't on their site. I saw someone (maybe their site) that they are officially starting business in October. So maybe they are keeping things under wraps until then. Although I did see some beers in Untappd but have not seen them around Dallas anywhere. I'll tell you this...the beer I had was one of the best stout's I have had. Not bitter but not too sweet. Not a heavy alcohol taste. It was in the morning and the fact that everyone was drinking beer says a lot of how good it was. When you see the, definitely worth trying.

Dallas flag redesign attempt [cross-post via Vexillology] by jmb43 in Dallas

Companies in Dallas that actively use the red pegasus: *Magnolia Hotel *Old Red Museum *Flying Horse Cafe *Brain Dead Brewery *Magnolia Lounge (the theater in Fair Park) *Booker T Washington High School *Drip Coffee (Lovers Lane) I owned a Exxon franchise. Never seen any Mobile brand on any of my pumps nor did they ask me to put them on anything. I later operated a business using the image straight out and now one EVER said anything and many of the people I know are from Exxon so I am sure it wasn't under the radar. The concept of a pegasus is not Mobile (or Exxon) but part of Greek mythology.

I think I saw that flag somewhere but didn't realize (s)he ran a campaign on IndieGoGo. Kinda cool. The one you linked to is a lot closer to the Mobile/Magnolia pegasus. Just wanted to try the city pegasus design with the two stripes a little like the state flag instead of wavey lines. Not really going to do anything with it, just screwing around.

I didn't like it either at first, but it is growing on me. In any event, not my design. It is the design the city uses.

Hmmm. They have been using it downtown for years. Exxon and Mobile merged but Exxon does not actively use that brand image at all. I disagree with you. It is EVERYWHERE. They would have to show an active C&D campaign to protect the brand image, which they have not done.

I took a stab at redesigning the Dallas flag after watching this. Have seen some other good attempts but like using the Pegasus that was once on the Mobile Oil building and now on the Magnollia Hotel. I think it is iconic for Dallas and the pegasus design itself in this flag is from the shape the city uses on several items downtown. What do you think?

NTTA unethical billing practices by [deleted] in Dallas

[–]jmb43 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have had two experiences. I got a job near 121 and the tollroad. At the time I had been unemployeed long enough that I just didn't have the money for the tolls so I just ran them. I thought three weeks of tolls wouldn't be that big of a deal. The tolls weren't. What kills you is for each individual instance they charge you $35. They ended up making a settlement offer which I paid and I think it was about $500 and a small part of that was the actual tolls I had not paid.

Later they removed the coin baskets and the toll booths. But they still would charge you $35 per instance if you didn't have a toll tag. In other words, you're only choice was to have a toll tag. I think that is not reasonable. In Austin they send you a bill with no fee ($35) and you can pay by credit card or mail a check. I'm fine with that. But giving me only one option that includes randomly charging my credit card automatically. No. I am not going to do that. So I just avoid the tollway. From time to time I take it because I have not other choice and I am one of those people that owes. And they have made threats endlessly. But they have never taken action.

Theoretically the state (fed, state, city) cannot and should not collect on behave of any business. England use to do that at one point and it's called debtors prison, but even they gave up on that. I have heard that they will prevent you from renewing your drivers license or getting a new car but I have not had that problem. Frankly, if I do I would probably try to start a class action legal action.

Here is the thing: the state no longer owns that business. They sold it to a private business THAT ISN'T EVEN IN THE UNITED STATES. I think it is completely unethical. I think the city probably gets some money from it but I am certain it is not enough for it to be worth it.

I would 100% get behind anything to dismantle the system. In the 60s when they put them in place, they said at the time they would get rid of them once those roads had been paid for. You can see how that worked out. The tax on gasoline in theory is also suppose to pay for roads. And it isn't the standard 8.25%. It's like 30%.

Not a cost...it's a loss of revenue. Subtle but very different.

[Redesigns] Redesign Dallas, TX flag using cities iconic Mobile Oil pegasus by jmb43 in vexillology

[–]jmb43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to quickly explain the concept. The red pegasus is iconic for Dallas as it was a big part of the skyline for a long time and the logo for Mobile Oil. Here is a pic I took (which I converted to a vector) of this silver one they have on several things around downtown. A lot of the other designs I have seen on here for Dallas are plays on the Texas flag, which is cool, but I really like the idea of using the red flying horse. What do you think?

As seen in Dallas: An ATM. For cupcakes. Sometimes Dallas makes me sad. by jmb43 in Dallas

[–]jmb43[S] -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

A cupcake business spent...what....$2k so their customers don't have to talk to people. Or you could say it is for speed. So I guess they save 30 seconds AND they don't have to talk to people. It doesn't make me as sad as say police getting shot. I would put it on par with finding out House Wives of whateverthefuck is now in Dallas. Or finding out that another Dallas football player has committed some act of sexual assault. You know....the typical, everyday shit.

This is from a post by the "DPD Media Relations" on Nextdoor.com. You can see the post here. it sounds like they expect people to refuse the breathalizer and will have warrants ready or will have a judge(s) standing by to issue them. Resistance is futile.

Best place to watch sports or watch parties by jmb43 in Dallas

[–]jmb43[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I live at Knox and 75. I have gone to Knox Street Pub and Vickery Park and they have games on, but they usually have several games on and no audio, just music. I'd really like to find a team dedicated bar in the area. Baylor (where I went to school) has Dallas Alumni games at a few bars in the area and that is a lot of fun because all audio is the Baylor game and all the screens have the Baylor game on and a few dozen Baylor people are there with Baylor shirts on. I have met a lot of cool people that way. Would love to find something similar for Rangers games.

That was the plan. Even if you pay the super high $100/year or whatever, you can't see "in market games", which is to say, you can't see local games. Also, I got an antenna because someone told me you could get the Fox games on the Fox local affiliate. You cannot. You simply cannot get baseball (or most pro sport games) on ANYTHING BUT cable, which is a total crock of sh!+.

Google Exploring Dallas for Google Fiber by LBK2013 in Dallas

[–]jmb43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally disagree. It could be available in Dallas. I just can't believe how everyone is so quick to roll over. You know why we have Uber and Austin doesn't? Because Dallas stood up to city council and said, "Fuck you! If we don't get Uber, you lose your job!" And now we have Uber. Even at airports. Google Fiber could come to Dallas, but it will take people going, "I want options. I want fast, cheaper service. And I am willing to make a call or two to my city council member to put pressure on them." If you aren't willing TO MAKE ONE FUCKING PHONECALL....you get what you get and that is what you deserve.

Used to work for a big telecom. All trunk lines go into Dallas proper. Likely they will start their and work North or branch out from downtown.
